• And so ends another year

The last pick up of the year although frustratingly a tenner of custom rolls is sitting in the sorting office for delivery on Tuesday when I'll be at work.

I love these little tins of cigars especially during the summer, first up is another tin of Punch Bolos. I took a tin of these on holiday with me for a small before dinner smoke

    IMG_1994.jpgIMG_1995.jpg

And a tin of CAO La Traviata Ninfas which are new to me

    IMG_1992.jpgIMG_1993.jpg

A fiver of La Traviata Maduro robustos

    IMG_1997.jpg

A fiver of Oliva Serie O Maduro Torpedoes

    IMG_1998.jpg

A fiver of Reposado '96 Estate Blend Habano torpedoes because they were on special

    IMG_1999.jpg

And something a little special to try, an Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Bellicoso

    • End of the year

Here it is, the final buy of 2017 just picked up from the sorting office. Ten custom rolled coronas rolled by Alejandro on 8 December 2017. I'm smoking one on Saturday and the rest are going in the freezer. You wouldn't believe how hard it was to stack that pyramid!

Custom rolls are a bit of a gamble especially when you buy privately as you can't prove the provenance and you have to trust the seller. These toros were supposed to have been rolled in the Partagas factory with tobacco from the 2014 harvest. All I can say is that they smell Cuban and the external construction is perfect. I'll smoke one on Wednesday and find out if they're more than a pretty face.

So; wiping the egg from my face, this turned out to be a scam and the guy sold us Nicaraguan cigars at a very good profit for himself. tommy uncovered him when he ordered 60 for a group buy and they came wrapped in a Honduran newspaper! The guy has been banned from several Facebook groups now and Tommy got a refund but I'm not too bothered as they are actually well made good quality cigars. It does go to reinforce what I said about provenance though.

I smoked 2 of them now, from different batches. The first was almost certain Cuban to me, it was a good cigar. The second was still good, but had a very loose draw like NCs do however the flavours where unlike any NC I ever tried. Good cigars, still cheap for us in the UK and TBH I would order more of these regardless of all this.

That's interesting Shaun as I've only smoked one from the batch we shared. They're all mixed up now though!

I bought some of these too and shared out with quite a few people; I'm currently wearing an omelette for a hat if PeeJay has egg on his face. Not a great situation however I do like these cigars and will smoke the rest over the coming months and years wondering about their origin and original price.

                            • And into 2018

First buy of the year, ten Fuente Anejo #46 from a private seller on FaceBook. I would have smoked one today but my helpful postie left them on the porch behind the plant pot so they were rather cold by the time I got them.

                              • Don Carlos

In lieu of the box of Shorts I sold recently I bought a box of Arturo Fuente Don Carlos #4 which is a corona sized torpedo. Nice to see that Fuente put their own humidification pack sealed in each box.
