  • New sticks from the states

I haven't posted here in a few months. I was experimenting with a lot of different sticks from my local shop during the summer, then I tried pipe smoking and tried a lot of different tobaccos, but as we got closer to the winter, I fell away from the cigars and pipes because I primarily smoke out in my back garden and the weather hasn't been great. However, my other half was on a cruise in the Caribbean and brought me these back:

As she was on a cruise, there was no-where that had a proper cigar shop for her to visit, so she had to choose from a very limited selection at the duty free. She knows nothing about cigars, so she told me what she could see and I told her what to buy.

I had one of the Monte 4s this evening and really enjoyed it. I think that's probably been the best quality cigar I've had so far. I have 2 problems now - choosing which cigar to smoke each day and I've ran out of space in the humi, so I need to buy another one lol. I'm particularly excited about the CAO cigars because I've never came across them much before. I don't think my local shop stocks any of this brand (though I could be wrong!). Plus all 10 cigars in the sampler are supposed to be great - they all scored 90 or above in Cigar Aficionado.

Lucky man Big Dawg, CAO are very popular on here but Macanudo not so much. if you're not ready for another humidor get yourself a Lock'n'lock from Amazon or similar and pop the excess in with a Boveda pack to keep them humidified. And get smoking!

Yeah, the CAO Champions II pack is actually a travel humidor, so I'll have to order a humidifier and hygrometer and it will be super handy for excess sticks.

Is there a reason the Macanudos aren't particularly popular? Do they generally not produce as good quality sticks as other brands?

The Macanudo Vintage Maduro 1997 is a nice smoke but otherwise they're not renowned for great sticks. That might be a good one, smoke it and see.

          Fun Pack!

Hombre, don't be swayed by CA reviews/ratings. You be the judge.

I'm familiar with some of your Sticks from the States, but I'll won't comment until AFTER you smoke 'em.

I had the Macanudo Cafe Rothschild there this evening and quite enjoyed it. It was a very plain cigar, more suited to the beginner smoker (which I would class myself as). I was able to smoke it right down to the nub, where most other cigars would have gone 'sour' or hot.

If I have an hour free tomorrow night, I'm going to give one of the CAOs a go. I just need to choose which one lol.
