• My Humidor (An original thread title)

    Hi guys!

So. As I'm starting to get into this hobby, I thought I'd start documenting how my collection grows, as much for my own entertainment as anything else!

I started smoking cigars in my 20s, and bought myself a cheap, little humidor back in the early 2000s - I think from simplycigars.

    H.jpg

However, I lapsed out of the hobby, and I seemed to be working too hard for too little money to be able to enjoy cigars! Anyway, a couple of months ago, after trying to stop smoking cigarettes, I got back into it. I purchased a rag-tag selection of various non-cubans. (And a JLP and some Monty Puritos, just to push the boat out and be a bit fancy, like.... )

Then, I started taking it a bit more seriously, and purchased this piece of rather gorgeous Montecristo 4-ness. As soon as I opened up the box and took a sniff, I knew I was doing the right thing, and I had to ditch the rubbish. Life's too short for bad cigars!

So ... as tends to happen, my poor little humidor was getting overwhelmed. So, this morning, this arrived....

    F.jpgE.jpg

Which is currently sitting at 80%, getting seasoned. Now, I *know* it's about the worst one I could have bought. It doesn't use space efficiently at all, it's too small, and glass is about the most unhelpful thing you could make a humidor out of, but I DON'T CARE. IT'S PRETTY. And it makes me feel big and clever and grown up. So that's a win right there. Anyway, the plan in time is to keep a few of my regulars in there, and scuba box the rest up under the stairs, where there's a nice, constant temperature.

I have a few petit corona sort of sized Cubans for trial purposes:

And I hope to buy many more over the coming months, and document them here!

Thanks for reading. I hope I haven't bored too many of you!

Looks like a nice lil selection - sure you'll find plenty to enjoy in there!

Don't think you'll bore too many people on here if you're going on about cigars!

Practicality is rarely a consideration in my mind! These things have to look nice in your home, otherwise they become things that other people hate looking at, resent 'having to dust' ( despite not having to be dusted) or things that 'others' insist on using pungent spray polish on.... Which is of course a terrible idea!

If they look nice then they are infinitely more accepted in the home, and oddly the contents isnt questioned as much!!!!

My first humi is rather understated... Its an italian dark burgundy strange vented polymer cased box, with a smart cedar lining. It was a 'special' deal at a special price a former colleague in Harrods a billion years ago. And it served its initial purpose very well; keeping my early sticks healthy. Its worn fine, is a bit bashed as it moved round london with me through rented flats etc years ago, and as its no looker it now resides in my man cave cupboard alongside my lockn lock boxes and all of my wines and spirits!

Those two are very smart looking though.. enjoy filling them!

They really do! The wrappers are flawless and almost velvety. You could eat them!

Good write up of your return to the hobby. And I echo Emaresee's opinion - my lock n lock tupperdor doesn't look anywhere near as good as my humidor (but it was cheaper and holds a few boxes!).
