  • Humidor was bigger than expected!

Hi all a small introduction in addition to my earlier "hi" posting.

Will show you what I have and then would appreciate some further recommendations.

So the title.. I went to Cuba last year and bought a few boxes and some fresh direct from the farm cigars, but that means I need a humidor.. the wife rolls her eyes at this point.

I found one on our eBay equivalent, go to pick it up and Arse! It's huge with a rather inconvenient sloping top tray, looked flat in the photos, oh well [emoji20].

So I haven't collected many but it's in progress. Boxes are in the bottom and individuals in the tray.

Can you spot any shining stars or some total duds? For duds you can ignore the farm and the 5 below them.. farm but with a ring wrapper, will leave them for a year and see.

these are the direct from the farm cigars.

As you can see I have loads of space so wouldn't mind some suggestions on additions. The one without a ring is a
    Liga Privada No. 9 btw.

Oh.. I have kept the boxes sealed and unopened... any reason not to?

welcome - nice selection. The farm sticks look a bit toothy, but otherwise all looking good. Some good boxes there... enjoy

I noticed all your boxes are still sealed. Due to the humidity in Cuba mould is a big problem I would get your boxes opened asap and checked. You also have the possibility of tobacco beetles and how you control that risk as domestic stock sold in Cuba is not treated the same as export stock. How are you storing your boxes just now as even though the boxes are closed they still need to be stored in a humidified environment

Looks good to me, some great picks those boxes. Personally I would open them to inspect the cigars for signs of mold or anything more sinister (tobacco beetle) but that might just be me being overly cautious.

+1 to this, I began typing me comment this morning and got distracted before posting so never realised I was repeating what you had already said.

Cheers for the comments. The boxes are stored in the humidor and went through the freezer on my return.

When I bought the boxes the shop put them into sealed bags for me. I was going to keep them all but due to work and winters etc. I thought about passing a box or 2 on so thought keeping them sealed would be better.

            Or not......

I've never had a sealed box, all vendor check the content before dispatch. I recommend checking them.

Almost certainly mould IMO. Even if it is it's nothing to worry about unless it's in the foot of the cigar.

Hey frrb not a bad start.............bloody impressive in fact! however all those 'farm' sticks are very questionable........they look terrible and not even good enough to be custom rolls made straight of a rollers bench..............that does not look like the Partagas Selection Pravada EL of 2014
.........also the JLP's look to rough even for a cheep short filer cigar.

Dont want to question where you bought these sticks but i do detect them to be 100% fake, not me trying to be rude or anything just want to make sure you dont risk any major accidents on what you have and give guidance

                        cheers

You really must have a cast iron will, because your ability to abstain from ripping open those boxes for so long, and casting your eyes over the delights within, is quite extraordinary!!

Personally, i would have to have peaked at the contents at least three times in the first hour of getting them home; smelling, squeezing, and plotting all the delights we will be sharing together in the months to come!

That's interesting, but you have not explained why or what specifically is wrong with the partagas, please point out the problems. No offence taken BTW. If there is a suspicion I would like to clear it.

For the JLP I was a bit surprised at the roughness myself and have since compared them in a few different shops around the world and they are all about the same, some were smoother some were rougher. They were bought in DXB duty free as a cheapo cigar, seal and hologram looks ok.

As for the farm cigars that's exactly what they are... direct from the farm

Pictures speak a thousand words etc.. that's 3 of mine in progress. Wrappers are sealed with wild honey.

I cant see why anybody would want to fake a JLP, they look fine to me.
