Yes and yesOriginally posted by Ehab View PostGreat post.....very educational
I look forward to seeing it done.
For the BOTLs that use extract fans, do you use also supply fans? And if yes do you turn the supply fans on in winter?

I obviously misunderstood your query. I use two small fans internally to circulate the air to the extractor but I don't bring in air from the outside.Originally posted by Ehab View PostWhat do you to heat the supply air during winter?

The air that's taken out needs to be replaced somehow. If it's not by the same amount, the extraction rate will suffer. In industrial situations, this is fine by a lossnay heat exchanger, the air going out heats the air coming in. It would be hard to hear exchange in such a small space, so either have a supply duct that you can open it close or crack open a window to replace the air that is being sucked out.

That would of course be assuming that the structure is airtight in the first place and most of these cabins aren't.Originally posted by franco View PostThe air that's taken out needs to be replaced somehow. Well I haven't suffocated yet!Originally posted by franco View PostA bog standard 6" fan will extract about 225 m3 per hour. Don't think the leaks in a shed would equal that!! Unless it was cold and damp all the time... 3.75m3 per min is a lot of air

No need for an air supply, although putting a vent in would be good anyway to allow the structure to breath properly anyway. I dont use internal fans to direct air to the extractor fan myself, a sufficiently sized fan should move enough air by itself, 4" bathroom fans are not powerful enough however.
I find my summerhouse holds its heat really well, a little electric fire is perfect. I insulated mine fully, but roof and floor minimum if you want it to be comfortable all year round.

I think that those figures are theoretical rates and would never be achieved in the real world. That said, a vent in the wall opposite the location of the extractor will improve extraction rates but in winter you may well notice a drop in temperature.Originally posted by franco View PostA bog standard 6" fan will extract about 225 m3 per hour.
