Just got a box of dippy 2's and to my surprise the box code in Jan 2011, never had a box this new it's a wonder the glue was dry on the labels.
How long should I leave them before even trying one as they look and smell fantastic?
hey giga,
i know it's not the same cigar, but it's a similar scenario!!! the guys at friends of habanos reviewed some march 2011 bolivar petite coronas!!! buy all accounts, they should be untouchable, but they gave them a rather favourable review!!! why not smoke one of your dippy's as a 'benchmark'? you may well be surprised:
I have to agree with Senor Robusto regarding trying one now and seeing how it smokes. Personally I would be looking to put them away for at least a year, if not longer.

Leave them for at least 12 months mate. Try one by all means as a benchmark, but when you try one in 12-18 months time you'll be glad you left them.
I have smoked many a cigar too early as I am inpatient but good thing come to those who wait (in Cuban cigars anyway)
Happy Smoking Brother.
They may not have gone into their sick period yet. Leave them a week or so, to get them over their travels and give one a go. Fresh & tasty, just like they are in Havana.
Smoke one now! If u like it then just smoke through them, if not leave it n smoke one every few months, unless u plan to give it 5 years if not , u should keep trying to see when they r good enough to smoke
I have this box of punch RS 11 from 08 it's taste younger then some 10 cigars to me so u can't just rely on age taste it
You're an impatient bugger G....I have to say when I was round and smelt them I thought they'd be good to go...benchmark with just one would be a good idea....
Wait a few week then give one a go just to see, I have had a few puros that smoke well young so you might get lucky.
If it tastes slightly of amonia or just generally too harsh then leave well alone for as long as you can. A year is a good amount of time at which to start sampling again.
