• Plastic wrappers on NC's

Do you keep this on even when sticks are stored correctly in the humi?

I've seen many photos of peoples' stash with the wrappers left on but presumably this has an effect on the ageing of the cigars?

Basic research tells me six of one, do it or don't - on one hand it preserves aromas and prevents mixing of flavours, on the other it doesn't allow the cigars to breathe and age, so what does the collective (NC smoking) oracle that is UKCF say on this issue?

It really is either/either from what I gather HB. The cello is permeable. You'll likely get more detail from those more NC experienced than I though.

Thanks cj121 I love this line from the Boveda article:

"Cigars are a matter of mood, experience and going to a place in your mind, so we encourage you to go there – cello or not. It’s the same reason that smoking an Opus the day your dog dies won’t be as good a cigar as a dime store cigar on the day you win the lottery. Gray matter between your ears has a lot to do with cigars."

Without the cellophane, cigars tend to breath better and, in turn, age better. Also, I find it much more appealing to open my humidor and see cigars in the nude

I take the cello off, makes them look a bit tacky with the cello on in my opinion

I have a box of Feral Pigs from which I removed the wrappers on purely aesthetic grounds but otherwise why remove a protective layer? NCs are good to go and don't require ageing so that isn't even a consideration.

the view from boveda makes good reading. I leave them on as it goes... bit of protection until I am ready to consume them
As ever I think we are tinkering around the edges here. If its a good stick, on or off, the cello is going to make marginal differences, and the likelihood of my palate spotting the difference is limited!

See, I look at it as packaging and take it off... No reason behind that! It's like if I get anything else, I whip the packaging off in a frenzy and romantically place it!

So, yes I take it off!

It's amazing to see how much the colour of the cello changes after a couple years. It turns brown from the ?oils?, goes to show either A: Cigars lose much more Oils than I ever thought. Or B: Some NC's are as full of as much crap as I always thought.

Deano gave me an old Jamaican cigar from which I had to peel the cello in pieces. The cigar was superb.

I personally usually take the cello off as it looks better. However with the last ageing room sticks I got I left on fired in a cedar tray in the scubador. ..I have no consistency lol

I've heard that it's best to leave them on, so they don't get flavours from other cigars. I think that does make sense if you store them next to others brands in a humidor. As others pointed out, oils come out of cigars and can then 'contaminate' the one lying next to it. I guess if you have them all in the original box that won't make much of a difference then. Though cedar wood also gives of flavours and you might get more cedar in your cigars as intended by the blender.

It doesn't hurt the aging, so I guess it's fine to leave them on and be on the safe side.

How best to answer Mr Horsebox's question?

Let's all pretend that Mr Plymouth went to a Boot Sale and by some miracle came back with a box of Partagas Coronas A Mejorado. Then being Mr Plymouth he removed all the old cello from the cigars and while he was at it he threw away the box, after all it is only packaging.

Moral of the story. If it comes packed in a box wearing cello leave it alone. It's there for a good reason or the manufacturers wouldn't go the expense of putting it on.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!
