Irritating as it may be to us who have heard the argument for so long, we all have to face the fact that there is also a social stigma within the cigar community of choosing NCs over CCs. I wonder how many closet NC smokers there are on the forum who write about some "awesome CC" they smoked last night or just "hauled in." ( )

But the real question we should all take the time to answer is this:

You are sitting down after dinner with the most important people you have ever met and they offer you an after-dinner cigar. On one silver platter there is the best Nicaraguan puro (Padron 80th maybe?). Another, the best Dominican Republic puro (A. Fuente God of Fire I suppose?). A third holds the best Honduran puro (Punch Gran Puro perhaps?). Atop the fourth platter rests the best Brazilian puro (Graycliff it must be). Finally, the platter with the best Cuban puro is placed in front of you (Um, insert favorite brand here ____).

    Which one do you choose?

Don't answer lest you be judged...
Business in the front. Party in the back.

      New scenario

I like the way you present the problem, it's almost solving the issue.
Personnally, I would probably go for an exclusive Cuban I could not afford in another situation.

But your scenario is, I believe, missing an important point. Why would you choose this particular Cigar? What is the reason behing your decision?

      a) You have smoked for 30 years, you smoked them all and are all about pleasure. You picked your favourite, whatever it is
      b) You haven't explored all the options and decide to go for something you haven't tried yet instead of what you already know
      c) The VIP offering the cigar (in your scenario) talks about Cubans all the time --> you go for Cuban instantly(Make friends first, argue tastes later)
      d) You read in several Threads that NC's are mediocre and nothing replaces a Cuban, believe it because "so many people can't be all wrong" and therefore don't think about picking a NC more than 1 second

Doesn't this angle bring something to the debate?

I 'd like to alter your scenario and offer an other choice to the readers of this thread:

You earn ?20K a year and are in charge of a familly of 4.
The cigars on the plate are not offered but on sale because important people give you orders, not favours.
You can smoke 3 to 4 NC's a week or 1 to 2 CC's. Which way are you going to go?

Now you make ?120+ per annum. What is your choice going to be?

Personnaly, I would probably go for the NC's 9 times out of 10 in the first case and for the cubans 7 or 8 times out of 10 in the second scenario. I would still explore the non cuban options, because I believe smoking cigars is also about discovering new flavours and getting good surprises from time to time
