As someone living in the US, I have a few thoughts on this one and being the cheap bastard that I am, researching inexpensive smokes has been a long-time hobby. Just ask my wife. I drive her nuts - "Do you need THAT many cigars?", "...but they were so cheap!", "...and what if you find out you don't like them?", "....well......maybe they'll get better with age...".....(rolls eyes)...you get the picture.
For a decent breakfast smoke La Aurora Seconds are an excellent deal, often available for under $20US per bundle. If you like the regular Cameroon wrapped line I'm betting you won't be able to tell the difference. Mild, sweet natural tobacco flavor and perfect construction. You can't go wrong.
Drew Estate just released a blend called Blue Ribbon and I recently got a bundle of the maduro coronas. Very tasty, almost floral and slightly sweet. Also a mild, breakfast-type cigar. One of my new favorites and usually $30-40US, sometimes less. It is a second and mixed filler, being compared to Chateu Real (never had one). Did I mention they are very tasty?
Villar Y Villar is a very nice mild-medium Nicaraguan that has a straightforward tobacco flavor with a little of that sweetness so many Nicaraguan cigars seem to have. There are about 38 sizes and they range from around $20-32US. Excellent value and they age very well. Smaller ring gauges are the best, IMO.
Consuegra is a Honduran second from Villazon that also comes in zillions of sizes and ranges $25-50US. Medium to full bodied, I like the maduro's best. Especially the Rotschild #9 - think Punch or Hoyo de Monterrey (Hond.). I cut my teeth on these, very tasty and a great value. Age is essential with these, at least a year, for them to be at their best.
Cusano CC is a Nicaraguan bundle cigar and a very good value in the $50US range. Medium bodied, creamy and rich flavor. I've never had a bad one. These I usually grab a single or two of any time I stop in my local to grab along with something higher end on occasion.
I've got a bunch more but I'll leave you with this last one for now: Pelo de Oro by Felipe Gregorio. I'm not much of a fan of his stuff in general but this one is an exception. In fact, I'm smoking my last one right now. It was released with some fanfare in '06 with all kinds of hype about the wrapper being very special, blah, blah, blah...so I grabbed a sampler about a year ago. Not impressed at first but this one, with a year on it, is wonderful. Mild, creamy, clean tobacco taste and nicely constructed. This one is a corona size and it had a little pigtail which, for reasons I can't fathom, I really dig. Great smoke and it should be available on closeout for pretty cheap.
