What specific cigars gave you the grief? Gurkha are considered 'top shelf' to some but have notorious issues with construction. Also what kind of wrappers are on them? Connecticut wrappers and some Habano-seed wrappers (such as Padilla Habano) tend to be very delicate and easily crack and then peel when you smoke.

Another thing to consider is the ambient humidity levels when smoking. One by product of combustion is moisture and if it's a humid day that added moisture may cause the filler to swell and thus cause the initial crack in the wrapper that will burn at a much faster rate.

I would also suggest you calibrate your hygros and (if they are digital) change the batteries every 6 months. I usually have it coincide with time change and smoke detector battery changes. Old batteries cause 'drift' in the readings.

That actually happened to one of the Diesels, but it was one out of a pack of 4-5 so I didn't take no notice. It was like the inside was swelling, consequently leading to the wrapper cracking and bursting open. Still smoked it, and it was rather tasty!

The answers are already in this thread. 69% should be fine. Some prefer down to 65 for NC's but they will not be blowing up at a true 69%. Myself & others suggested your hygrometers but you refuted that. Oh well, smoke on & enjoy mate.

CIV. Are you saying the wrapper is unwinding or splitting?!? Over-Humidification would affect the splitting of the wrapper as you know.

Maybe you should just stick to CCs and give the NCs to people you don't like

I suspect this might tie in with the 'high humidity in the UK' thread. If the ambient humidity is high when you're smoking, could this not cause issues?

Are NCs more 'delicate' than CCs ie do they prefer a lower RH and a smaller range of fluctuation? I have two floor standing cabinets and both sit at approx 68-72 depending on whether the Oasis is switched on and they never ever unravel or split!?!?
