  • Davidoff

I have recently smoked 2 Davidoff. One was the Nicaragua robusto and the other was the Year of the Ox.

Davidoff is expensive, that's why I only had one or two before.

But those last 2 cigars were phenomenal. The Nicaragua had a beautiful deep molasses flavours and a nice spiced note. The year of the Ox was on my mind for days after. Never had a cigar with clearer flavours and the most tremendous transition I ever had. I can't think of any flavours I didn't taste at some point. And despite being large cigar it stayed tasty all the way to the last cm. Tremendous.

I am becoming a fan. Due to the price, I'll still smoke these very very rarely, but I also have to try more and more of these.

I've enjoyed most of the Davidoff cigars that I have tried. The millennium blend robusto and Winston Churchill Belicoso. I wasn't so impressed with the late hour robusto though.

I've not tried one yet. But certainly curious now.

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

I love the late hours but they’re not that refined really but I do love the flavour. My experience with Davidoff has been mixed anniversary, Grand Cru’a and special Tubos have all been very meh. Millennium blends are nice and then I’ve had a couple higher end that have been mild but very good.

I don’t think their flavour profile justifies the price when compared to me but their higher end can be something special

I like Davidoffs, well constructed and they feel like quality, really enjoyed the Escurio and the WC, the Late Hour was a bit underwhelming given the price.

The price is the Problem for sure. But of the few I had, I have to say there's some justification in it. The tobacco is clearly well selected. But yeah, if I can get 2 or 3 very decent cigars for the same price, it's hard to justify buying them.

I like the Nicaragua in fact still have a box. I sold my Year of... boxes, too much hype for a non Cuban for me. Never tried them.

Is there a difference in hype or worthiness between CC and NCs for you?

Not really, some Cuban hype going on too. Red boxes are coming into play, take the RYJ Maravillas, 8 cigars for a fortune, just because of someone’s new year 😂

Smoked a few, not too bothered about the Nicaragua, Escurio blew it out the water in my limited opinion. Late hour toro was superb. The traveller short belicosos are a 40 minute pleasure, Yamasa is next on my list.

I like 👍 em all - well most of the ones I’ve tried although one of the short Robusto sized Cru’s was the only cigar I’ve ever had that made my head spin with so much nicotine

Generally Davidoff is supposed to be on the milder side though from what I've heard.

The Nicaragua and Yamasa are definitely the “full bodied” end of their lines to appeal to a more “modern” palate, at least that’s what Eddie at Davidoff told me and I’d have to agree. It’s a premium product with immaculate construction and quality control hence the premium price. Anything with those traits, regardless of origin should be a premium. (I’m sure you can tell I don’t subscribe to Cuban is better, just another country creating cigars. It’s all personal preference after all!)

The Nicaragua is a fantastic smoke and in my opinion, stays true to the existing line, not sure how they do it!

Same here, Cuba isn't special in my eyes. It's just one of many flavours you get from different parts of the world. The longer I smoke, the less CCs I smoke. Many mid range CCs are often very disappointing and over priced.
