  • Plasencia Reserva 1898

Plasencia is a tabacalera in Nicaragua that also produces for many other brands. They grow their own tobacco and have one of the biggest tobacco storages in the industry. This allows them not only to create some stunning cigars, but also to create some real budget gems that are not possible to create die other manufacturers.

The Reserva is a perfect example. I discovered it in a blind tasting with 50 other people. At the end of the general consensus was this is an excellent cigar worth about €12 a piece. We were all surprised to find out that the Toro format that we had actually came to €5.50!

There's not a ton of transition, but that's not to be expected at this price point.

You do get some pepper which is typically for Nicaragua but also a ton of sweetness, plum and dried fruit notes. Some earth and distinct leather notes come in after the half point.

It's a strong flavour and not for the CC lovers amongst you. For friends of Nicaraguan flavours though, this is a must try. Best budget cigar I have had in my years and for that price, you can't really pass it up.

Give it a try and let me know what you think.

I had one and agree it is very good value and nicely constructed but I found it a bit bland, more earthy than fruity, and didn't think about reordering. Alma Fuego is my fave of the brand.

I noticed that flushing it from time to time brings out the sweetness and flavours a lot. Can't say I got any bland one after my first box of them, but there's some variation within a box. So might be worth giving it another go, maybe you just got unlucky.

Thanks for the review. For €5.50 they’ve got to be worth a box shot. In the UK they’re probably about £20 though considering the size 🥲

The Alma Fuente Salamon? I did, didn’t like them so PeeJay took them off my hands and can’t get enough of them

Smoked one last night - The Architect and it was a fantastic smoke - really complex flavour profile and a beautiful creamy undertone throughout. Think Pandora did a review of them recently

They are indeed mostly made at the Plasencia factory and you can tell. I've had just about all of the H&S lines and all are beautifully constructed and tasty 👍🏻
