Went the whole hog and packed a Mellow Virginia to round out the supermarket gang, 3 was not the magic number and the Mellow was a slight disappointment.
I think perhaps it's more of a day smoke to be fair. I remember thinking this was decent, perhaps I will come back to it when I'm not in the middle of walking down memory lane with two old friends.

Moral of the story?.... Don't mess with a good thing, don't push your luck and don't switch it up too much in one sitting.

On a positive, Bruno was as good as ever and Condor... Well perhaps the stars aligned for it.

Yes, good post on the supermarket trio. Strangely enough, I too packed a bowl of Mellow Virginia last night and had mixed thoughts. Like you, I regarded it an all day type baccy. However, the tongue bite is always there, ready and waiting for the unwary and mindless draw.
If I would compare it beers, I would say that MV was a mainstream bitter like John Smiths compared to a bottle of Old Peculiar, representing something like Dunhill Flake.
I have a pouch of Condor flake I must return to at some point, a bit like pulling out the old CDs and smiling at the familiarity of them.
I think it's great to be involved in all this carry on with pipes, tobaccos, cigars, beers and coffees. Fabulous.

This pipe smoking looks like fun, out of interest what does rubbed tobacco mean

Rubbed out - when tobacco is packaged in flake form (very much like a slice of Vienetta ice cream, viz. layers of tobacco tightly pressed and cut into a slice) it is rubbed and teased out in the hands to form ribbons of loose tobacco. The taste, when rubbed out, is slightly different to non-rubbed.
Rubbed out tobacco is generally easier to smoke due to it burning easier.

The Viking has a high nicotine content which intensifies gradually, perhaps due to the coarser grind, and lasts longer than the McChristals. The only supplier I know of VD is mysmokingshop.
I picked up some snuff today, Gawith Apricot and Poschl Red Bull.... The Gawith, incidentally is also made by Poschl and is actually lovely with a very pleasing apricot odour/flavour and the Red Bull is like a real mans Vick's inhaler.

I was mixing Viking Dark and McChrystals 50/50 until very recently but have switched back to the McChrystals because I much prefer the fine grind, and I like the menthol punch it has too. The Viking Dark is not nice when it drops into the throat because it is too coarse.
I've had a snuff binge tonight in the pub and feel well bunged up. A bit too much I think.

I tried a peach snuff a while back now in my pre-ecig days while i was exploring methods of ditching the fags.

I have to say, if I could refrain from sneezing long enough to experience the flavour, I bloody loved the stuff (Can't remember who the brand was though)

I think I have found a new world to explore, fortunately snuff is not expensive.

Yes, it's a very pleasant hit every so often, and discreet too - so long as you don't allow brown snot to dribble uncontrollably out of your nostrils.
I carry a soft cloth in my pocket to dust the surplus from the nose.
Rather than carry a full tin about I put some into a small McChrystal tin and top up each day. To keep the larger tin fresh I seal the lid with a strip of electrical insulation tape. It's very effective at preventing the snuff from drying out.
Perhaps this last bout of posts ought really to be on its own, away from pipe smoking, and certainly out of this particular thread on 'what are you smoking now'. How about starting one up like 'What are you snuffing now?'

Dunhill Nightcap, in my bent apple.
Pure nectar! Cool burning (don't be afraid, you can hammer this one a bit.) and so true burning that even I can get thought the vast majority of a bowl without relighting!

Rattrays Brown Clunee this evening. I first tried Brown Clunee in '96, and haven't revisited it until now. Like a certain song or smell that unlocks a memory, this one really took me back. It isn't a complicated smoke, best savoured slow, and quite tasty.

Gold Block, now I'm not a cigarette smoker or what I would even call a regular smoker and it shows with this one because the Nicotine hit me hard.

The flavour was ok but it burned a bit too hot for my liking.
