well, i picked up a cheap pipe multi tool (?2), a cheap reamer (?2), pack of pipe cleaners and a 50g tin of peterson's luxury blend (?10)!!! got the pipe reamed out (but not too much), later i will do the salt and alcohol treatment (vodka or jack daniels) in the bowl!!! all being well, it should ready for smoking at the weekend!!!

Both my father and uncle have given me pipes, I'm yet to get some tabacco though! Will probably grab some from JJ's when I'm next in town.

Vodka is ok because it's neutral but I wouldn't use the Jack Daniels!

btw, if there is no bad taste in your pipe you don't really need to do the salt and alcohol treatment.

When i first tried a pipe tobacco some years ago, I went with an Aromatic Blend as some people recommend this for beginners.
Worst thing I could have done, they smell great, but taste of nothing, and give you tongue bite (An unpleasant hot tingling sensation)
I almost gave up, but then discovered English Blends (Dunhill 965/Petersons Old Dublin/Squadron leader, to name but a few) and have never looked back.

It's great to try different blends/brands as there are so many.

Too late small club, went with jack Daniels already, simply because there was a wee drop left in a bottle left in the cupboard! What's the worst that could happen......Also, the pipe was well dirty and smelled really foul......Alex
