Cherry Vanilla will be heavy on sugar and will taste harsh and bitter when puffing like a train.
In terms of packing, I personally don't use the three stage method. Rather, I fill it by putting the bowl in the tobacco and let it fall in. It's almost like a gravity fill technique and only really possible with loose cut. After filling I tamp it down and light it, let it go out, tamp again and relight.
Very gentle tamping regularly will help keep the tobacco alight.
Additionally, puffing hard can encourage the pipe to extinguish. A gentle approach, more gentle than you would think, works well.
Keep at it, keep your pipe clean, and you'll find it to be a fabulous pursuit.

How to be a Gentleman!
Smoking a pipe is a great in-door sport - perfect for the cold winter days - and a great, inexpensive alternative to the almighty puro.
Packing: the interwebs are full of videos on this subject, but the easiest to remember is the "baby-woman-man" method, taught to me by our very own se?or CJ! Perhaps he will chip in and expain.
Enjoy your new hobby, se?or lovegod!

Just been looking on you tube, I think I might be over packing a little, not enough oxygen, having to puff like billyo, getting too hot, making it bitter?

It doesn't taste great!
I have wondered if it was the new pipe making it taste bad though?

My first pipe.
Bought my first pipe a few days ago from my local tobacconists, I didn?t pay a lot for it just in case I didn?t take to it!
I actually quite like smoking it, I had a few issues with having to keep relighting it but I will put that down to not packing at correctly.
The tobacco smells nice, but tastes like sh1t as it is just a cheap one, but I am going to order some better quality tobacco over the next few days.
