They will eventually burn out after a few years smoking, but the woods I am using were traditionally used for making pipes in times of briar shortage. I have a small cured cherrywood pipe that is quite old, how old I don't know, I've never been able to find any information about it to date it. I have some briar arriving and will be making pipes, but for the meantime I'm using various woods as they are a lot cheaper than briar and I need the practice.

Made a big mistake with this cherry wood poker from the start. When I drilled the chamber the block moved making it a bit difficult to get the stem right as I was concentrating more on fixing this than paying attention to the stem. I carried on nonetheless.


Not sure about the colour too. Lots of lessons learned with this one.

I've got a pipe with a slightly wonky chamber and it doesn't seem to make much difference, it smokes just fine. Also, I think I like the colour - it's unlikely to get lost!

It puts me in mind of all those, I think Rattrays, pipes that come in pretty garish green, only red; and nicer as a result I think.

Same here but I find that sitting down reduces the chance of wet shoes considerably!

Thanks for the positive feedback, just bought a new bench drill so hopefully it will help with this problem. I am a bit of a perfectionist, so even though I showed this pipe mlw who didn't see any problem with it, I see the flaw as I have worked on it. There is a young piper at work, who is always skint that will buy it for what I paid for it, so no loss and he'll be happy with it.
