  • I’m thinking trying a pipe again

Used to have a pipe when I was just out of Uni and just thinking I may try it again.
Corn cob seems a great cheap start but what tobacco?
I like the idea of smooth aromatic, fruity, citrusy, sweet. Something light. Couple of Peterson descriptions sound nice but we all know marketing descriptions and reality aren’t always the same.
    Any recommendations?
Also how many 30 min smokes would a 50g tin last?
Its been 30 years since I last had a pipe so I’ve forgotten most things.

    Hi kickback
if I were you I would start out with loose aromatics
instead of tins with tins if you don't like the tobacco then your stuck with it and more expensive as well start out with half Oz samples to start you off quite a good variety of aromatics about try a few out see what you l8ke and don't lke before venturing out on tins and packet pipe tobaccos hope this helps
any other questions I'm sure me or other pipe smokers will try and help

Thanks, I found I could order some loose in 10g samples, so went for a few different ones. Hopefully there will be one or two to my taste.

I really fancy trying a pipe, but MrsB has threatened to divorce me if I buy one. So at least I know my way out now!

Nothing wrong with smoking a pipe
think it's very relaxing and the choice of tobacco
is the same as cigars sky is the limit
            mixtures ..flakes ..plugs
            aromatic ..non aromatics
            mild tobacco ..medium tobacco
            and full tobacco
in my opinion makes a change from smoking cigars
I tend to smoke cigars in the summer and turn to my pipes in the autumn and winter

              So far:
Theyre a bugger to keep lit. Using more gas than tobacco.
Smoke is very light and mild compared to cigars.
              cheaper than smoking cigars
Bringing back memories of Lord of the Rings.
certainly will keep hands warm in winter

Got a tin of Peterson Elizabethan Mixture, then 10g pouches of American BC blend, American SP blend, Mixed no 12, Kentucky N blend and (don’t laugh) OAP blend
The Peterson is like Xmas cake, the Americans more pungent dried fruit, OAP peachy alcoholic fruit, Kentucky is a bit weird and my least favourite.
Still struggling with how to get lots of smoke so probably over done it a bit as I’ve got a sore tongue now.
