  • Tobacco samples

Has any pipe smoker on the forum any feedback on smoking 10gm samples, I ask because I've just done the opposite of most of the advice given to newbies in that I bought new 50gm tins then got some samples. Two of which were the same as the tinned ones I've already smoked and there was absolutely no similarities, does the process of bagging up small amounts in some way degrade the tobacco.
if I had smoked the samples first there's no way I would then have bought a tin of the same, can I assume that this may be the case in a lot of samples on the market.

Did you use the same pipe?.. Are the samples much dryer?

Different pipes and yes the samples were drier, but then again I had been drying out the factory tin tobacco as it was quite moist so they were probably not far off each other as regards dryness

could just be a combination of both. I definately notice a difference in taste of the same blend in different pipes. maybe try a bowl from the same tin back to back in different pipes. Im not very experienced and dont smoke alot but im starting to know which blends i prefer in different pipes. worth a go and a good excuse to light up!

age too, if they're taking the samples from an open tin, could be akin to a jarred sample.

Daft observation, but my palate has gone to rat sh*t since covid… certain things taste homogenous… maybe an influencing thing here?
