  • Peterson Early Morning Pjpe

The last in my samplers I bought which for a refresh where Bayou Morning, Bayou Night, Cornell & Diehl Sunday Picnic, and Early Morning Pipe.

So early morning pipe its one of those legendary blends owing from its history when Dunhill was the blender, and Peterson itself has done a fairly good job of carrying on a number of those Dunhill blends.

But having recently tried Dunhill BB which was just masterful as English goes, and also trying Samuel Gawiths Perfection which unusually for an English adds just a hit of Vanilla, let's see what we get on this.

So tin note is a woody grassy and sweet BBQ campfire smell about exactly what you might expect, not overly strong which given the name is on expectations

it pack well as is expected, and light fairly well this took about three relights, first thing to hit the tongue grassy woodiness, as the smoke develops there is the vague hit of Virginia sweetness though the Virgina's in this are more grassy than sweet.

The orientals play with the grassy and wood flavour to add just a slight sour note but the major flavour is grassy wood, on the retro then is when the Latakia and its just a undertone of it gives that smokiness which then plays with the orientals to give a slight peppery spice.

Its a very dry smoke, which adds to the woody profile on this, I note online the description states this is mildly sweet, I'd suggest the sweetness just hits mild. Its woody grassy with an undertone of smokiness.

Its pleasant enjoyable a great first timer intro to English though there might be others depending on your palate. Personally if you get hold of Dunhills BB mixture you will better served as that stuff blows this out of the water but, I'd also Gawiths Perfection is actually a better English blend and with the Vanilla rounds off as more sweet which gives you a lovely balance of flavours.

However EMP for me gets 4/5 and now I've completed this sampler range some of my previous reviews scores need amending.

Bayou Night I scored personally at 2.5/5 and this holds true I didn't enjoy the smoke and for those who might its likely to be a 3/5 smoke. But not one I enjoyed.

Bayou Morning which is actually a Vaper as opposed to English but Bayou Morning with its 25% Louisiana perique I scored originally as 4/5 and that score will hold steady, its lovely absolutely lovely its not overly peppery not to me anyway as the perique plays with the Virgina's and gives a lovely stone fruit sweetness and even manages to give some sour slight smokiness which will appeal to English fans and in fact some sites do mistakenly class it as such. The Perique and Virgina's here are belnded perfectly making this a great vaper.

Sunday Picnic which is a Virginia, Perique and Oriental in the form of Izmir Turkish also not an English but goodness what a revelation of a smoke, none of these blends are cased or flavoured but Sunday Picnic holds the crown of being the most aromatic non aromatic I've ever smoked, its a spicy peppery and very very plummy smoke with the orientals playing to give a sour bakers spice note the flavour.

This is a retrohale must, its a glorious smoke and just a great what if (what if I want an English esq smoke without the Latakia) this is the answer. I enjoyed this smoke the most out of everything and this is the score that will change I originally scored this a 4/5 however its uniqueness lends itself to a 4.5/5
