So I was able to get hold of some of this legendary mixture Germains Plum Cake or PC, which ironically when looking is more a fruit wine flavouring as opposed to outright Plum, well given how rare Germains is, and how much I enjoyed my previous purchase of a Germians blend I went with a 25g bag and thought why not, a beautiful shag cut on this and I thought I would break in my new Pipe a Mr Brog Old Boy cause I loved the look of it.
So on opening the bag, a very interesting smell of fruitiness, something that could well be alcohol or maybe even aniseed, with some Virginia typical sweetness from the blend coming through a very unusual smell perhaps thats just how a wine topping transmits I dont know as its a new one for me, but its packs beautifully, and lights very easily so a few puffs in, yep fruitiness followed by a very wine like profile and then by spice very mild some slight floralness to it and you know what thats almost mulled wine not quite enough spice on it to make it that but a very Jam Shed like wine if you have ever had the pleasure of a Jam Shed Red wine.
Very beautiful, very fragrant, rich in smell and taste, it doesn't develop. What I mean is the flavours come at you all at once in a very nice symphony of flavours and the retro just complements those flavours more strongly a really solid 8/10 smoke for what is an aromatic but not typical one its very good the best Ive had in a long while.
That being said being a fan of more Plummy Vaper like blends and having some C+D Sunday Picninc which is a Vaper plus a bit of oriental in its flakes, I made a second bowl that contained a small amount of Sunday Picninc mixed with more of the Plum Cake, and boom that is straight up Mulled Wine wich becomes more plummy but not overly so and its adds a dimension a spice level that as I say puts it on par with a beautiful Mulled Wine, Warming Sweet Fruity with a cinamony pepper (which will get hotter if you push it too hard) but OH my what a smoke what a room note that got the Mrs approval who remarked it smelled like Mulled Wine, its a combination I would highly recomend and takes it to a 9.5 absloutely superb.
So if you get the opportunity to get some Germains PC do it, if you also have and C+D Sunday Picnic, then absolutely mix these two in a bowl and you will be in Hobbit Pipe Weed Heaven of that you can be certain.
