  • bruichladdich: the laddie 10

    hey all,
bought a bottle of this this evening! this is my 3rd bottle this year..... that has to be a recommendation alone!

this has to be one of my favourite whiskies! flavours of malt, slight peat, honey, butterscotch, orange, ginger, brine....... if this was a cigar, it would be an h upmann or juan lopez......

    highly recommended, great stuff indeed!

You're not wrong there, it is a brilliant dram. Bruichalddich are especailly proud of it now that it is spirit that was created since it was reopened.

I think I read somewhere that Bruichladdich recently changed hands, here's hoping the new owners respect the new ways of working as the success of Bruichladdich is, in my opnion, partly because they have turned their noses up at some of the old stuffiness of the whisky industry.
I really hope that the new owenrs allow the recent philosophy to continue and not stifle it.

      hey wardjrz,
yeah, the laddie 10 is an exceptional dram! coming from being an irish whiskey drinker, bruichladdich has really opened my eyes and my palette to scotch whiskeys! over the last year or so, i've tried a few of the laddies: the laddie 10, port charlotte: an turas mor, pc8, barley 2004 & 2006, rocks and waves........ all winners!!!

as for the take over, remy cointreau are now the owners, but as far as i know, thet don't interfere with the running of the distillery!

Nice, not tried that one but I do like Islay malts.

Not quite in the same league but I picked up a bottle of Saintsbury's taste the difference 12 year Islay single malt. For ?20 its bloody good!

Saw the Laddie 10 for the first time in our local Tesco and bought a bottle for my dad. Naturally, he was greatly encouraged to open it and pour it out.
Wonderful stuff - bright, zesty, honey-like burst of flavour and aroma that floods the mouth and nose.

I went to the kids school fireworks last evening and was delighted to find a hip flask of my (probably) at least 8 year old Sloe gin in the pocket of my jacket. Took the chill off the evening nicely. No cigar though, damn political correctness. Off to watch Saracens A vs London Welsh this evening with my Dad so I think a small Cuban may be in order (and the rest of the flask)

Hey, Senor (or indeed any one in the know - which sounds like a few), i like a Whiskey and have recently been broadening my horizons (as i am a bit of a Macallan head if the truth be known - the Fine Oak 15 year being one of my favs), my most recent purchase being a Glenrothes!

...but by no means am i an expert!

I am looking to buy my Father a good dram for his birthday (coming up soon), yer know something a bit 'special', would you say this hits the spot on that level or is there another Bruichladdich you would recommend?

A friend has recommended getting a good Ardmore but as i have had neither brands i would not know?

                    Any words of wisdom?

Does your dad like 'em oily and luxurious like a Lagavulin, or searching and spritely like a Glenkinchie. I would put the Laddie Ten in the spritely end of the taste spectrum. Just my opinion mind.

Good verbatum sir, what a lovely word 'spritely' is, lol! Well tbh, he likes 'em smooth and not over peaty, oily is an interesting word for Whiskey, oh how i need to develop my taste buds on soooo many levels!

Oh no, first cigars, now whiskey!

i know he is rather partial to Glenmorangie!

Avoid Lagavulin then if he prefers the less peaty tipple. Lagavulin has a powerful smoky and peaty taste, almost medicinal - a riot; an orgy in the mouth - wonderful stuff!
I tasted the Laddie Ten back to back with Glenmorangie Quinat Ruben and Glenmorangie Lasanta last night and thought the Laddie Ten was a more concentrated tasting whisky that hit the nasal cavity beautifully.

I don't think you can far wrong with the LT, it's very good. The only downside I found with it was the overly simplistic packaging and label, but you drink the label, and I think the distillery is intentionally promoting a modern look to the product.

                            hey funkilee,
i've yet to try a 'laddie i haven't liked! the laddie 10 is hard to beat, my go to whisky now! i'm not a great fan of the smokey, peaty types, but i was positively blown away by bruichladdich's 'port charlotte: an turas mor', now rechristened 'the peat project'! the balance is perfect, the peat is just right, not overpowering! there's a new limited edition (6000 bottles only) just released, under ?40!

bruichladdich have a massive selection, peated and unpeated...... best to read through and see what appeals to you! however, i can't recommend the laddie 10 enough! at ?32 a bottle, it's hard to beat!

                            hope this helps,

Yo Mr C. what's your honest opinion on the "new" Morangies...some say Lasanta...I say
Lasanta 001.jpg I actually think the quality of the whisky has gone down remarkably since the new owners had an input..IMHO. & price..shocking!
