Hi all, just wondered what people's thoughts were on pairing vodka with cigars. Any recommendations?

I only ever drink vodka when i'm looking to get drunk so I really couldn't advise
Just wondering, do you enjoy drinking vodka over other spirits/beers?

I think pairing cigars and drinks are completely different for each person. Best thing is just to try it and see if u like it.

there's nothing complimentary about the taste of vodka and the taste of cigars!!! with whiskey, rum, cognac...... there's an woodiness, sweetness and spice that compliments cigars pretty well!! vodka just has that bitter, almost chemical taste!! well, to me anyway!!! however, i have enjoyed on numerous occasions grey goose vodka!!! there's something quite 'pure' and clean tasting about it!!! never smoked a cigar with it though.......

I dont know if its just me but I cant imagine vodka being a sit down and enjoy type of drink. Would much rather sit down with a nice cold beer
Or am I being too closed minded

Stolichanaya Gold - rather lovely vodka. Have found it goes well with lighter cigars (not with a BBF).

I can drink rather a lot of vodka, always neat, and not have a hangover... Must be something to do with my Russian, Polish and Czechoslovakian heritage. Don't drink anything like Smirnoff - at the least something like Russian Standard (my first purchase of which was in Moscow when I was 14 or 15), Stolichanaya, Grey Goose et al. Smirnoff might as well be paint stripper, and the same goes for Absolut.

The flavoured vodkas have been known to make me feel ill! Just horrible, synthesised flavours. Perhaps there are some nice flavoured vodkas out there, just that I've not managed to find any yet.

I guess it's the same as any drink in that you can't really judge it on anything other than premium quality products.

I have a half bottle of Russian standard in the cupboard that my brother left here, might give it a try soon and see what it's like, but I really can't see myself spending a decent amount I money on a bottle of vodka when I could buy a good single malt instead.

While I can imagine the top quality stuff would be a nice little drink, I don't see vodka as having enough flavour to justify spending that much money on it.

I have Grey Goose, Smirnoff, Absolut, Stolichanaya, Vladivar, Krolewska & Nemiroff on the bar at present & that's where they stay when I'm smoking.
Tried pairings on a range of cigars & vodka's & it's never worked for me..

OOOp's forgot the Fris in the fridge.

I can't imagine it going too well, I do love a good vodka tonic though. I prefer vodka straight, something like stoli, zubrowka, luksusowa or even finlandia...ice cold and neat.

I agree with the thought of a nice scotch though...

The only time I drank vodka with a cigar - a decent cigar - was in Moscow. My wife is Russian and we used to visit quite often. Scotch is so very expensive out there as is decent cognac whereas you can buy a reasonable vodka at the supermarket for ?3.00 a bottle. And so, you try the combination. At first not so good for most of the reasons already posted but, eventually, it ain't so bad. When in Rome ! I still prefer a port or red wine with my cigar and a good coffee is hard to beat.
