  • recommendations please for coffee pod machine.....

    hey all,
need some help regarding a christmas present for father in law!!! gonna get him a coffee pod machine, not sure which one!! i own a nespresso essenza, i would've got him that, but unless i buy him the pods, he'll never use it!!! i see currys are doing both dolce gusto and tassimo for ?50 each (half price)!! the pods for these are available everywhere, not just online (like nespresso), which means he can supply his own!!! so.......

    dolce gusto or tassimo?

any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

btw, he loves his coffee, but isn't a coffee snob!!! he does make use of a mokka pot, but says sometimes he can be bothered to go to the hassle!!! the pod machines would suite him to the ground (no pun intended).... just so he can make himself half decent espressos and americanos etc

I've not tried dolce gusto but we have a Tassimo 1st gen at work and it is pretty horrid (if your really into your decent coffee), quite a few here like it though as they only normally make instant.

I don't own a Nespresso but had the demo at John Lewis and the coffee the lady made for me was the best I've had from that type of pod machine, streets ahead of the Tassimo.

      cheers dave,
the father in law loves the coffee made with the nespresso, then again, he's coming from red mountain and tesco gold instant!!! lol!! as i said, i would've bought an nespresso machine, but he doesn't do online shopping and there's no nespresso boutiques or retailers here in northern ireland!!! i see him a couple of times a month and i know it'll be a nightmare keeping him sorted with nespresso pods!!! tesco, asda etc etc all do senseo, dolce gusto and tassimo pods....... i thought that may be the next best thing!!! i can't find a definitive review of any of the 3 online, and at the end of the day i'm only looking to spend the ?50 or so....

Tricky choice. The Tassimo is a nicer machine, but the dolce gusto has nicer coffees and chocolate. That said i've not tried the new Costa range. (They discontinued Starbucks house blend which was great)

The cheaper Dolce Gustos aren't automatic, so the drink quality will vary, and you can't leave it to make the drink.

I'd agree. Have had a Magimix Nespresso machine for a few years and its very good, and very convenient.
