sorry sam, it was in a small, local, independent off license......... not something you'd find in tesco or asda!! do you not have something like this near you?

Ahh shame! Not really anywhere good, when I visit the relatives in Belgium we stock up on the good stuff but all out atm. Smokey one sounds interesting!

My very favorite bourbon. Better than Gentleman Jack.

I'm not a fan of bourbon as a rule, but I have to say that this is one that's good enough to drink with a drop of water (for my palate). Truly astounding in a whisky sour though - a cocktail which is able to justify the existence of bourbon to me.

totally agree with you simon!! i'm not a fan of bourbon (with the exceptions of woodford reserve and bulleit), but this is very nice!! smooth, sweet & spicy, kinda 'warm' if you get what i mean (a wee drop of water really adds to it)!! there was a lovely, bitter, orange peel type flavour in there that made me think it would be perfect with an h upmann magnum 46 or 50!! i think it would be good with a partagas or a juan lopez!! it's not something i'd pair up with a bolivar, RA, montectristo, VR or cohiba..... for these i'd definitely stick to my usual scotch and irish single malts!!

Good to hear how it's matching with things, thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to try it out with an H.Upmann at some point. (Good shout on the other two bourbons too, fully agree).

I forgot to mention that Makers Mark actually engraved my name of one of their 5-year barrells. It was a competition.

Try Elijah Craig, I prefer it to Makers Mark, expecially in an Old Fashion

Four Roses Small Batch, along the lines of Makers Mark but a tadge more refined: over ice brings the spice out..
