My preference Sean, mainly vintage Riojas as they echo/compliment many flavours and aromas of Havana Cigars; leather, cedar, cinnamon, tobacco, liquorice, nutmeg etc. Also Montepulciano from Italy, and delicious Barolo for special occasions.

Try Majestic...very helpful staff, great wines and some decent deals to be had

Theres agood local wine shop in liverpool called scratchards very good service which i go to. Have you ever tried a wine called dornfelder its a sweet red sounds strange but very smooth and dangerous because it goes down that slight to easy

+1 on the fruity, mellow reds but I tend to prefer tall drinks like G and T, Pimms, Campari as a regular choice ....and of course cant go far wrong with a good rum (Zacappa, Diplimaticos, Goslings family reserve).

I love red wine but sadly as old age creeps up it fails to agree with me, so I now only drink it very occasionally and choose carefully.

It's been a while but I'm always partial to a good Bordeaux, Chateauneuf du Pap or my favourite Rioja, Faustino I.

I mostly drink either coffee or whisky with cigars, if its a floral cigar I like a Bowmore Small Batch Reserve or Dalmore 15yr, for the more full bodied cigar maybe a Lagavulin, Ardbeg Corryvrechan or a rather excellent Caol Ila 24yr old I picked up on my last holidays is divine!

Also LOVE red wine (and white) and have drunk it many time while smoking a cigar. What about a full bodied Californian cab. Tesco unbelievably (as there range or wine is usually appalling) do a good California red called Ravenswood if you want to try it?

I have been enjoying Argentinian Tempranilo's recently, I haven't had one with a cigar yet... But they really cut through a meaty lasagne or bolognese beautifully.

Toro Loco Tempranillo from Aldi ?3.59, I know what your thinking and I would often agree.... This stuff is pretty good though, put it this way it's as good as bottles I have paid 6 or 7 quid for and I'm sat here now drinking it quite happily.

I do tend to favour the Tempranillo/Riojas and this one is no exception.

Do quite enjoy a bottle with a cigar. With a lighter cigar tend to go for something from Sancerre, or for a full bodied cigar can't beat a Barolo.

Once had a terrific Barolo with a Boli Brittanicas - an absolutely perfect pairing. Can't remember exactly what Barolo it was, but it was perfect.

A couple of weeks after I moved to Edinburgh a wine and beer shop opened up across the road from my flat (they knew I was coming), the chap who owns it is thinking of getting a small humidor for his counter (and is partial to the occasional cigar), for which I have volunteered my services as a "cigar consultant" to help select what he should stock.
