  • Tobermory 10 ?20.99 at Booths

As the title, Tobermory is one of the malts I am yet to try... I'm working through them with a collection of 40+ being rotated at the moment.

At ?20.99 it's got to be worth a punt.

Having read the tasting notes (http://www.tobermorymalt.com/pages/Tobermory-10) I have to say it sounds bloody lovely! Surprised that a light coloured whiskey should be described as this one is though....

IMO some standouts are, in no particular order: Bladnoch, Bruichladdich, Talisker, Longmorn and Springbank.

Jura is quite tasty and is often found at good prices.

The other point to make is that you live close enough that a tasting session could be arranged!

Ok, I have tried it now. It's good, quite a complex dram. This is one which benefits from a couple drops of water (and I mean only a couple drops)' it's 46.3%, the malt is quite evident on the nose and is the dominant flavour.

I didn't get grass as such but I did get a sense of hay. I wouldn't call this a sweet whisky but I definitely got a tiny hint saltiness almost like salted caramel.

If anyone is interested I almost always take a scotch at room temperature and neat. When I do take it with something it's usually a cask strength and I take it with a few drops of Glenlivet mineral water I do is just to help bring a couple of the more shy flavours out.

It has a little more alcohol in than standard, that's why I think a drop of water opens it up a bit.

                  AnCnoc 12 - ?21 down from ?32
                  And
Speyburn Bradan Orach - ?17 down from ?26 (although I have seen it for ?22 elsewhere)

Picked up an AnCnoc myself as I'm not too partial for Orach, but at ?17 its a reasonable tipple.
