  • General stuff about rum

So not being a big drinker outside of xmas and as it is fast approaching I thought I would spread my wings as it were and explore the world of rums to go along with the new cigar hobby.

I keep reading about zacaya, diplomatico, pyrat etc and wondered what the rum drinkers amongst us valued as good sipping rums?

Also, which cigars do you enjoy with your sipping rums? I imagine the choices change with the different rums you drink?

zacapa, appleton 21, havana club 7, and el dorado are probably my favourite rums.

kraken isn't bad either.. goes down the best when frozen (and the bottle looks amazing when the ice is sublimating around the bottle). great flavours but wouldn't sip kraken.

oh yes i forgot about that, I watched a cigar review on youtube a while back and it was that video featuring havana 7 year old that sparked me off toward rums, excellent, i will definitely try some of that

I plan on getting an eldorado 15, a cheapo supermarket over here (aldi) is doing them for 35 quid... tbh I haven't even checked if that is a deal or not, but it did register on my radar to get.

Another zacapa recommendation, it definitely does seem to be very popular across the board

          thanks for the suggestions

are there any rules to follow with regards type of smokes to go with these rums, or should you let your taste buds be your guide?

havana club was marketed in cuba to pair with every cigar.. there was another one that they recommended to me as well whose name is escaping me. i personally enjoy havana club 3yo with anything. but who would get that when there's same priced bourbon floating around here

El Dorado 15 is 55 dollars here (bordering 35 quid?). if it's the same price as our government liquor store, i would say it's not a good price. keep in mind, this is the same place that sells Cragganmore and Talisker for 90 dollars a bottle. take that comment with a grain of salt.. i'm not sure how the guyanese exporting tariffs work.....
the 21 YO is around 110 dollars. i should get a bottle when i cross the border. treat it like a cognac, has a similar profile. same with the Reserve 15 YO.

that is excellent info re havana club 7, hadn't heard that but I will make a point of getting that bottle.

Just had a quick look online and el dorado seems to be 41-45 quid, so for uk and from a very quick look about 35 seems ok

Yer i won't be paying anything like 100 quid for one bottle of alcohol lol

cheers, glad to be of help.

keep in mind that they're dollareedos here in CA we're also in the worst part of it where they gauge us for pricing.
it's 110 DOLLARS here, probably around 70-80 dollars in america. so i don't see it going over 50 quid. that's around the same estimations i use for scotch, bourbon, and gin..... but then again, i could be very wrong take it all with a grain of salt

I wouldn't be surprised mate, we get battered in a big way on taxes over here, I would be shocked if anything was even remotely the same price or less here, than there.

Just had a look at havana club 7 online and that seems to be 23-25 quid here... Dont know how that translates into dollars but I am definitely grabbing that, on the cheaper side of most of the stuff i have looked at so far.
