Just went to the Whisky Exchange in London and got myself a Bottle of flor de cana, a fraction more expensive than the MG XO, but a lovely rum I haven't had in a while! Last time was 2 years ago when I was travelling around Asia, they don't do very very well on the rum front. Plus was a great chat up line!

Recommend tryng it it if you Haven't already.

A few rums I like are the Mount Gay, Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva 12 & Ron Santiago De Cuba 12yo.

Favourite has to be the Diplomatico.

Ive just started on the rum the past couple of moths, but as Krist said about, hard to come by in Asia.
So far I've had Captain Morgan's Spiced, Bacardi Gold and Appletons Special. With Appletons being the standout by far.

Probably sacrilege to you guys, but I just can't drink it straight up. Needs some coke and/or lime.

Will keep an eye out for some that have been mentioned here when I am back on UK shores.

7.60 cuc in Cuba
11 euro a bottle in Spain with a bit of searching

For me, not other rum comes close and that includes Seleccion de Maestros, Barrel Proof, HC7, Zacapa 23, Flor de Cana etc.

Just opened the Santiago de Cuba 12yo.
Lovely stuff. Loads of vanilla & liquorice. Not as viscous as I was expecting at all.
Matusalem 15 Gran Reserva to open a little later on!

I'm thinking about jumping in to the world of Rum, so was considering grabbing my first bottle from my local Tesco.
What are your opinions on the following, which are in stock at my local:

Havana Club 7 year old.
Sailor Jerry.
Sailor Jerry Spiced.
Kraken Black Spiced.

I'm going round in circles reading reviews so thought it just best to ask for your opinions.
After all, it is to accompany a smoke.

Hmm, I wouldn't have anything other than the Havana Club 7 neat, the other's I would have with coke and a wedge of lime personally. Havana club 7 is very molasses-y??

Big strong smokes all round I would say, a nice strong cuban!

Mount Gay is decent from the supermarket mate. Also heard good things about Kraken!

Sansiburys do the Mount gay Extra old for ?34, its the best i've found in every day supermarkets! It lasts a while though and is a cheap night out even if you drink the whole bottle. Can't recoomend it more for a punt in replacement of a night out, nice cigar and a few glasses of this!! Pour a triple, one piece of ice, good cigar! Bliss!! I'm excited about it just thinking of it!

If you're having Rum and coke the others are fine, its gonna be rough if you try most of them neat. If you want hairs on your chest try the wray and nephew... I, as a rum drinker, had a shot of it... once... Havana club is nice, again one piece of ice in a double/triple is the way forward!
