Would any of you folk make a good recommendation? I am usually a coffee drinker by day and recently have tried to make a post 6pm rule of caffeine as it pretty much wires me.

I do love tea, earl grey, builders lap-song (something) very smokey.

Always via bag, never loose leaf as it always seems complicated.

    But any advice appreciated!

That is a hand roasted tea, made by an 80+ year old guy in Japan. As it's the late harvest of the season and due to the roasting process, it is very low in caffeine and can be drunk in the evening, without a problem. It has a strong wood fire note to it, but still tastes pleasantly smooth.

You can get bags to fill yourself. Which works fine with a tea like this or black teas. I would not recommend bags for green teas and most Oolongs as they hold back fine particles that are part responsible for the flavour. If you take a liking to tea, I would recommend a Japanese pot. They have a mesh built in, so you simply put int he leaves, and infuse as needed. Very little hassle. Muji also sells strainers that fit in a cup, so you simply put the strainer in the cup, the leaves in the strainer, top it up with water and take the strainer out when it's done.

Don't use small strainers in forms of eggs or balls. Tea leaves need space to expand and soak. The more freely they can float in the water, the better the flavour.

Hehehe... I really hope someone will pick it up from him once he's gone... He's not the only guy making this tea, they are even machine made ones around as well, but his is the nicest... 😉

Well after reading this thread a while ago, I got quite curious about trying some of nielas teas. I've been drinking them a few weeks now and feel I've got a bit of a feel for the ones I like and don't.

I got a cheap gongfu set and a cheap matcha set for my birthday and a sampler from Niels. There was loads of different teas and I liked most of them. But the ones that really took my fancy were oolongs, japanese green teas and matcha!
If anyone is it all curious to try some posh teas I can't recommend them enough! Nielas was a pleasure to do business with and gave me loads of advice to help me out. The flavours in these teas are something I've never experienced before and are a real treat for the senses.

so thanks @Niela you've really got me hooked!

So happy you love the tea Tom. And I just realized, I got the exact same tea tray at home.

We took your suggestion to heart and are working on sampler packs with a selection of various teas. I'll definitely create one for cigar lovers as well. Maybe we can even have a herf with tea and cigars at my place some time.

I'm far from a tea expert, but anyone who hasn't tried Masala Chai with their cigars should give it a go. Pairs really well.
