Rum Newbie

Just received a bottle of this - Brugal 1888 - I had heard it makes an excellent sipping rum. Anyone tried this before?

Just got a bottle of Rumbullion. It’s got a little too much burn for me to drink neat but is nice with a wonderful scent.

Bumbu is still my fave so far - I think the fact it’s less alcoholic helps. Will try some Diplomatico soon.

We bought a bottle of No.7 back from Cuba and I really struggled with it. Alcohol taste was harsh compared to some of the other rums posted which are more pleasurable to drink.

The Especial and below are definitely mixing rums, make a decent dark and stormy though!

I’d say the same for the 7 but some like it, the Club rums get a lot better from the 15, but it’s not good enough to warrant the price at that level. Cuban price is about right for it!

All the Havana Clubs tend to have a fair amount of heat on the finish that some love some hate.

Try some Rumbullion. Available in your local supermarket for £35 and Amazon £32. Lovely flavours with a banana nose.
Mine's evaporating at an alarming rate and infinitely nicer than the drain cleaner cheaper rums.
I might have to get a bottle of Diplomatico just to slow the consumption down.

Two rums I would recommend - first is Red Leg (not the pineapple infused one) - which is great with some pepsi or cola - nice undertones of vanilla running through it etc. The second is Don Papa which you can find in Sainsburys for about £32 - a great rum, ideal for sipping. Both go great with a good stick!

I prefer it to Bumbu. More syrupy.
Don't bother with the Navy Strength one as it adds no flavour just more alcohol.

I think it’s a bargain for £30 if I’m honest with you. Six beers down my local cost the same amount and I know what I’d rather have with a cigar.

Will look to check some others out too.

If you get given Lambs Navy Spiced Rum (like I was recently) do yourself a favour and pour it straight down the sink. Disgusting stuff. 😵

Ha! My Dad poured me one of those which I nearly spat out! I wouldn't mind but I'd taken a bottle of Havana Club 7 there with me.

I’m glad you like it, it’s a very good drink and although slightly more than £20 it’s well worth it in my opinion and in the world of “premium” rums is very well priced.
