I'm a bit late on this post but I recently bought a bottle of Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva.
I've had rums before and never really found one that I enjoyed enough for sipping (got some of the Havana Club Anejo Especial, which is a good mixer). I thought I'd splash out on something a touch more expensive and I wasn't disappointed - really totally different from anything I've had before. Very heavy and sweet, almost like a liqueur, with loads of caramel and vanilla flavours.
Anyway, if you find any or fancy ordering online then give it a shot. I will be on the lookout for some Ron Zacapa myself, as I've read so much about it.
We all know how magnificent the 7 yo HC is, but this Anejo Especial offering by the Cubans seems to be a top drawer, value rum. It's my first bottle of it, and it works magnificently with Coca-Cola... I've yet to give it a run out on the rocks though.
Yummy!
If you like the flavour of Havana Club, the A?ejo Especial and A?ejo Reserva are both good value and are rums that (unlike the 7 yo) you will want to mix with cola or ice. In Cuba, the HC 7 is several $CUC higher in price than the two "special" offerings, both of which are cheap enough to be given away to me at resorts and events.
Other good "mixing" rums from Cuba include Ron Caney A?ejo Centuria and Ron Mulata A?ejo Reserva.
For sipping neat, I also like the Ron Cubay A?ejo (7 yo) and my favorite the Ron Varadero A?ejo 7 A?os.

Thanks for the info on the rums Cbob.Have tried a few in my time but not been lucky enough to try the Cubay or the Varadero; maybe one of these days.

Ron Zacapa, Diplomaticos are great rums but you could also try some of the other Cuban ones such as Ron Varadero 15 year old, or if you can find it some Ron Vigia anejo as well
