[QUOTE=simonjgriffithshr;74993]This seems an appropriate thread to announce the news...

As of tonight, I am my real ale society's 'Cigar and Spirits' officer (essentially organizing cigar and single malt tastings... ) - a new position, created at my behest.[/QUOTE

What a crap job (not). Excellent opportunity Simon and I guess we all hope you take full advantage of whatever comes your way. Without asking about your journey, you've made some really positive advancements over the last twelve months so good luck in all you do

Lots of great craft brews go well with cigars. Fortunately for us here in the States we're going through a craft brew renaissance at the moment. Since it hasn't warmed up here quite yet, I'm still sipping on a few bourbon barrel aged beers paired with a stronger blend custom rolled cigar. When the temps march back up, then it's on to hoppy IPA's or Double IPA's paired with a more citrusy cigar such as a SLR A or the Bolivar 5th Avenida 109 if time permits.

ive had a few cigars with the kasteel kru, they do a ros? brew as well IIRC, works well with a cigar I thought. bottles are small and quite pricey but can be got from morrissons last time I checked

avid toker - agree with you about the American beer renaissance. The last couple of times I have been over I've tried some really nice craft-brews or beers from micro-breweries. A few of them would have gone really well with a cigar.

Another Real Ale fan here, but too many to list! But a "go to" pint for me is Black Sheep bitter, light "session" beer that goes well with a cigar without distracting from the smoking experience. Added bonus is that Masham is only 5 miles up the road from me, with Theakstone and Black Sheep Breweries, so supplies are fresh and lightly travelled at our local!

there used to be a great pub in croydon called the beer circus, huge seleciton of german and trapiste beers. sadly they turned it into a cocktail bar, thus came the final nail in the croydon coffin
The beer circus was a great place. It's not too bad even now as the selection is more interesting than 99% of pubs I think they may have bought what stock was left over from the circus.

Just had some Badger "Tangle Foot" this weekend, nice pint, sweet, almost honey flavours, light but quiet strong (5%), went well with a cigar.

I will try Tuborg or Cobra beer with a cigar. Should be good fun as their taste is pretty good.

I've been drinking quite a bit of Brahma recently and it's not at all bad when paired with your favourite Cuban!
