This is one of Cubas finest and ranks alongside the Havana Club 15 year old but not at the same price. On pouring you get an immediate floral aroma of honey and caramel and this gets stronger and more mellow as you warm the rum. The taste is 100% Cuban with a sweet overtone and some distinct toffee flavours around the palate. To get the very best from this rum you should warm it in your glass like you would a fine brandy.

I paired the rum with a Montecristo C and the pair went wonderfully together...almost too well as 4 glasses later I am feeling really good about the coming weekend and the world in general.

This is a true sipping rum and should be drunk neat or with a few ice cubes, nothing else as this would spoil what is an "A" grade rum. As I already said I have drunk this in Cuba, when I could find it as it is not the easiest to obtain, and to find it now available in the UK is a real bonus.

Don't underestimate the power of this rum as you find yourself wanting to pour more of it, and only realsie how good it is when it comes to getting up and walking

This is a rum for the true aficionado of rums and would pair well with most Havanas but really goes well with something with a little bite to it, possibly try it with a Bolivar or a Ramon Allones as it would take a lot to overpower the flavours of this wonderful rum.

If you like a fine rum to go with your cigars you could really do no better for the money than trying the Ron Vigia 18 year old and if anyone wants a sample to try then the first 3 guys to send me a hip flask, I will happily send them a sample
Enjoyed a glass with Mitch at his place last week along with a fine Cohiba. Truly some smooth rum and worth every penny...or pence.

        DB Out!

Hip flask arrive yesterday all safe and sound and filled with lovely rum, downside is that I have one hell of a cold at the moment and can't smell anything so I?m going to have to wait until I can so I can enjoy it properly. Hopefully I?ll be snivel free at the weekend and enjoy it with a nice siglo II. I?ll post a full review when I can appreciate it.

            VMT.

well i've finally got over my cold and i'm enjoying a RyJ Churchill with some very fine rum, VMT. Thought id go for a mild cigar so it wouldn't overpower the rum.The rum is very very smooth with a nice warming glow, not too harsh that can be found in some of the cheaper rums. I'm getting the very faintest hint of vanilla but no orange yet and i think the chocolate may be masked by the cigars flavours. A very very nice rum but very expensive. Might have to see if they sell it in smaller bottles lol.

Must be one of the finest rums i've ever tasted. Big thanks to Cigar-aficionado for allowing us chosen few to sample it. What do the rest of you guys think?

Maybe we should arrange bottle splits?

ive not had the oportunity to sample my flask full yet due to being to busy and away from home but i do plan to dip into it this weekend very much looking forward to it. i have to say it smells great ive resisted having a little sip as i want to drink it properly with an havana although im still undecided which to pair it with not had a r&j churchill for a while that could be the choice will post up my thoughts when ive sampled it

finally had a chance to sample the rum to cut a long story short i like it
on the nose now this may sound weird but i got an overwhelming smell of bananas with a lovely sweet vanilla, taste wise probably one of the smoothest rums ive sampled, got a slight butterscotch taste on sipping it but seems a very floral tasting rum.
i dont want to blether on too much about flavour profiles just want to say this is a fantastic rum which drinks beautifully.
many thanks to cigar af very kind generosity much appreciated

nice review Andy. How do you compare it against Zacapa. I clocked this at Schipol recently. It has been repackaged into a more "modern" bottle. They were doing tastings but at 6am, it didn't strike the note - lightweight I know!

Not unlike the Zacapa Karl, not as sweet but really mellow and does go great with cigars
