Talisker 10

Talisker 10 has a lovely chilli kick in the finish, well worth trying and a very good dram.
Worth checking your local supermarkets aswell, they sometimes have some decent offerings at a very reasonable price.

Not my bag I'm afraid.
I prefer lighter speyside stuff (typically!) this was a bit too strong for me.

Talisker is a fine drop, if a little salty. Got to agree about the 1/4 cask Laphroaig though - it's my go to, along with Highland Park 12yo.

This... great drink, but with the peat, there is a definite oily, slightly salty side to it. Suits me fine

I hada 30 year old Laphroaig at the SMWS last year. Very little peat! It was a completely different tasting whisky!

As far as the Talisker is concerned, if you like the peat and iodine, I'd go for it!

Laphroaig not tasting of peat! That I find very strange. I agree with you about the Talisker. If you like the Islays you'll probably like Talisker.

Just spotted this (sorry I'm late!), but had to say that Talisker is actually my favourite 'mainstream' (ie you can often find offers on it in a supermarket around xmas time!) whisky. I really love Laphroaig too, but that is definately a more iodine-based aquired taste - yes, Talisker is peaty, but not in my opinion overpoweringly so, not least because there is plenty of sweeter malty flavours in there to balance it out...

I agree about the independants offering some great drams at reasonable prices and always go with jim murrays recommendation
