Recommend a Cognac or Armagnac

OK, so it's my turn to ask for some alcohol advice now.

My father-in-law likes the odd Cognac or Armagnac. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but he uses a warmer with a little flame to heat the glass, it really does turn it into an amazing drink!

I'm planning on buying him a bottle for between the ?50-?60 mark, all suggestions welcome.

I don't suppose you happen to know what he has currently?
It'd give an idea of the direction to point you in.

If he smokes, both Davidoff and Hine do a cigar cognac (around ?50/?60)

p.s. If your interested in a slighly smaller bottle (35 instead of 70cl), you could do a lot worse than this one (a classic).

I'm afraid I can't be of much mroe help. The last Armagnac we were drinking together was dusty and from 1958! Wish I could remember the name.

I never see the "big names" in his cupboard like Remy Martin, Martell or Hennessy.

Armagnac - now we're 'cooking'.

My personal favourite producer is:

Comte De Lauvia

(Though there are quite a few)

The 1987 is a good buy (Under ?60), but if you're looking for something as old as a 58? They tend to be around the ?200 mark.

(They go as far back as the 1880's - For the 'thick end' of 3K!!!)

(Worth having a look back)

If you're not in a desperate hurry, I'm sure you'll get a few more suggestions.
(There are quite a few members on here who like a cognac - or two - or three).

hey styler,
i recommend hines rare champagne cognac (?35 approx, 70cl) and janneau VSOP armagnac (?30 approx, 70cl)!!! both are pretty much available anywhere and great with a cigar........

Check out Sainsbury's taste the difference range, there are some bloody good tasting cognac and armagnac. I know Jpmoore enjoys the xo champagne cru cognac.
