My first Cohiba Lancero. Got most of the flavours that the internet told me i would get.

It is a great cigar however the beany/grassy flavour is just not for me. There was some utter WOW moments of honey and vanilla but not enough to make me want to buy another.

H Upmann Mag 48. Not quite sure what to say, especially to all you blokes who want or really enjoy these. Not good, not totally awful, but not what this was supposed to be .... or were.


I've dig out my old review;- http://www.ukcigarforums.com/showthr...ke-%97-11-(EL) .... I really loved the Mag 48 back then, but todays cigar came nowhere close. The taste was Cuban enough, but dull and muted without any sparkle, zip or zing. Progression (if you want to call it that) was A to B with nothing in between, and I didn't bother to finish it. The after taste was roasted, burnt tobacco and I was left with an unusually dry mouth.


Hopefully this was a 'bad stick', or maybe it's the Mag 48s time for a trough period. Trouble is, production smokes can generally be relied on to go though peaks and troughs without too much degradation, some LEs on the other hand have hit their trough early and just carried on going.


I was looking at mustn't-say-where prices this morning and contemplating a box. Not so sure any more, on this smoke I'd say the Conni 1 was a far better bet, and a better price.

Do you know what the age was, don't want to sound like a stuck record but really not very nice young for me. Once they are balanced (5-20 years) you can get those wow moments for the whole stick (although I have smoked some poor examples as well).

Arf i have had the same experence with the 48 not what they used to be, i said something similar a while ago just not as elegantly as you, this does raise the question are LE only good young?

I personally think it was a "bad stick." Remember my old mouldy box that caused a tad of uproar? I've smoked two of em so far.. First one i was terribly depressed with it as I smoked only to only your second last picture.
The second one I had, geez.. what to say about that one....
Amazing aromas and was MORE of a cuban than normal (if that makes sense). The only reason i couldn't nub the fucker was due to my lack of a toothpick. In fact, i kept the big nub lit and ran around the bar hoping someone had a toothpick.. all in the effort of getting the most out of that immaculate stick. I couldn't believe that came from the same box as the first stick i had only 4 days earlier. Put it out when it was the length of the first bone on your index finger

Side note: the second stick was left out of humidification for around 2 days. Brought the thing with me to alaska and forgot to charge the travel humi's green puck before i left . might've helped.. but not THAT much of course.....

Personally, I think it's a damn decent stick? But then again, I'm stuck with...errr, I mean, I have the pleasure of owning three boxes of them.

But that's just me.

After being disappointed with a Mag 48 I thought I'd try cheering myself up with something else. This is one of a few from a BOTL's Italian adventures .... thanks Mike! Draw was fantastic (nigh on perfection) taste was bloody marvelous, and something I hadn't previously noticed about these .... there's no power shortage.

Deleted now and no idea on the age, but Christ was she a great cigar.

Strictly speaking I had this a few days ago but..... Cohiba Robusto. It was a single bought as part if a sampler over the internet and was unfortunately rather disappointing. It just tasted strong but bland almost all the time, with only a few notes of flavours such as wood and grass - I don't know if that's how they're supped to taste or if mine was a bad stick/just too young?
