Rewarding 3 days of decorating with my all time favourite Julieta; 2001 ERdM Tainos

Classic, elegant, rich, complex and exquisite; nicely complimented by some fresh Java Sumatra and John Wilsons "Golden Age of Holywood" Prom blasting in the background

Agree on the Olivia V Belicoso, try the Melanio, it's bit milder but also good.

Hoyo de Monterrey Du Dauphin Hunters & Frankau 1998 Vintage

I read somewhere that 1998 was a bad year, but this was all in all pretty decent. It was a very slow burner and lasted a long time, the smoke was also extremely dense and descended slowly before thinning out and rising out of sight.

For a short time in the middle it got quite strong and very heady.

My experience is that '98 was an excellent year.

apparently it was more of the popular brands. The cigar boom didn't affect the lesser known brands as much as they did Cohiba and Partagas.

Interesting tidbit of anecdotal evidence: mate of mine used to smoke cohibas Partagas and the likes since the early 80s. 97,98,99ish was when he had his last Cohiba and last Partagas. It wasn't until recently (summer this year) that he dipped his toe back into cohiba with a Siglo VI.

Not sure how big of a marca Hoyo was back then. But it couldn't've been terrible. And besides, many people (including myself) are really trying to find the 98 trini Fundadores. Apparently those are smoking excellent now AND 15 years ago
