Joe. it's hard to explain.Originally posted by smokey joe View PostI wish I was on holiday right now. Thats not a Cuban Cohiba is it??
I just found out there is a cigar convention in Las Vegas ... is that on your agenda?

Long story short: Behike is Cohiba's 'ultra premium' line. Essentially what Diamond Crown Maximus is to A. Fuente.
Long story: named after a chief of olde timey Cuba's native inhabitants, Cuba released a Behike special edicion (image HERE) for Cohiba to celebrate its 40 years d'etre. These ultra premium cigars were numbered and the humidors they were sold in fetched a SUBSTANTIAL price. I remember hearing our LCdH in Toronto had one on display for a while. Women came in and tossed down a platinum card and walked out with that and two other humidors.
Fast forward 4 years in 2010 and Cohiba releases its super premium line (it's not ultra this time
). this time, it's affordable to the general public but even in Cuba, it's 4x more expensive than other special releases. Take, for example, a box of RyJ Reservas. They cost 440 CUC down south. Behike 54s cost 320CUC down south. that's a ridiculous price difference since Behikes are available year round.
So why do they have such a flabberghasting price? Is it actually the cigar? God no. With the right connexions down there, you can grab factory rolls for 10 cuc a pop. It's all in the branding. Hoyo can't justify a price increase in that nor can H. Upmann. But those two marcas can be better than the Cohiba. The only problem is that barely anyone knows Hoyo de Monterrey or H. Upmann. Whenever the words 'Cuban Cigar' pop up, they immediately think COHIBA. The marketing foothole is there, now you just have to gorge the masses. You tell someone they're Cohiba premiums and the average layman would think premium premium. so they think: yeah, why the hell not? i'm on vacation so $30 a cigar isn't too bad.
If you ask me, the Behikes barely taste like Cohiba. They're more of a Partagas or a stronger La Escepcion flavour profile. But that's just me

We use the expression when someone accuses someone else of something they are themselves, so in that case you were accusing Mo of being weird, when you are in fact weird yourself (I could probably have phrased that betterOriginally posted by butternutsquashpie View Postheard sean use it once... didn't know it was to me
), so you are the pot calling the kettle black

Yes convention this weekend here every year although it's strictly for industry bods only.
I'm here for the Cigar Dojo Vegas party bash Sunday night, and hook up with some friends. Oh and have a holiday with the Wife of course!!"I may be drunk Miss but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly!? - Winston Churchill
