Conversation used to go, How much did that set you back? About 8 quid. Bloody hell your nuts spending that on something your just going to burn!
New conversation, How much did that set you back? About the price of a couple of pints. Oh, that's not too bad.
Amazing how our perspective can be altered so easily.

Possibly but would say a small minority of high end cigars aren't appreciated most must be smoked by afficionados surely. But big city bankers splashing their money about at Xmas spending ridiculous amounts on lunches and cigars that would change most people's lives for the better is just obsceneOriginally posted by Wigan View PostIf it wasn't for people throwing mega bucks at it then surely with no market for there wouldn't be all the choice for us to pick through?

You could say the same about Cristal champagne, if they want to waste their money let them get on with it. Live and let live.Originally posted by oskihen View PostPossibly but would say a small minority of high end cigars aren't appreciated most must be smoked by afficionados surely. While I agree to an extent it's all relative, somebody on a low wage with no savings spending ?7 on cigs, versus someone earning ?250K a year with a mill in the bank spending ?30 on a cigar is actually spending a higher proportion of their income.Originally posted by oskihen View PostPossibly but would say a small minority of high end cigars aren't appreciated most must be smoked by afficionados surely. Morally it's questionable, financially it's irrelevant.

Not the point I was making budgie, if I was a millionaire I'd have a walk in humidor full of the finest cigars money can buy, my point was the decadence and waste spent on people who don't necessarily smoke cigars in the first placeOriginally posted by Budgie Smuggler View PostWhile I agree to an extent it's all relative, somebody on a low wage with no savings spending ?7 on cigs, versus someone earning ?250K a year with a mill in the bank spending ?30 on a cigar is actually spending a higher proportion of their income.

I agree with both of your points, but people just see it as a way of treating themselves, whether or not they can appreciate it for what it is; the average lager drinker could be given just about any brandy and be told that it's worth ?20-30 a measure and would notice no difference from a glass of basic Martell, but that wouldn't stop it feeling "special" to them because of the occasion, or ritual of it if you will.Originally posted by oskihen View PostNot the point I was making budgie, if I was a millionaire I'd have a walk in humidor full of the finest cigars money can buy, my point was the decadence and waste spent on people who don't necessarily smoke cigars in the first place
