Lovely 5 and a half year old Montecristo No.5 courtesy of Stevieboy from the 12 cigar sampler I bought before Christmas. Never really considered cigars this size before, but with a decent bit of age, this one packed a fair bit of flavour into the small package.

Looks good I usually stick to monty 2 or Edmundo but I have a box of no.4 I got in Cuba that would have about five years on them now might be worth trying them then.

Like it?s larger sibling the Esmeralda it?s a great cigar. It is stronger on the nicotine and more peppery, a real little bomb [emoji41]

Not a great day, stuck on the rig for an extra two days (one to New Year, one today for weather), & then heard my good friend Rony, whom I visit every leave had a fall yesterday.

I received the news this morning & by this afternoon, heard he had refused to be checked out at the hospital & had been given morphine. Barely an hour later, he gave up the ghost.

I have been visiting Rony for my than 7yrs, an ex Rhodesian, he had an interesting if tough life. Luckily, I was always interested in politics & history so we could discuss Ian Smith & his experiences in South Africa.

He married twice, first time happily, second time not so. No children & no other family.

Here's the last photo I took of him, a rare one smiling! We shared many smokes together, him with his rollie & me with a small Havana. Weather permitting in the Nursing home courtyard or outside the local restaraunt, where treated him to a decent meal once a month.

So I went down to the Smoking TV room & lit up a CE 2001, that I was saving for my first one ashore in 2020 but it was the best I had with me.
