Depth of Field (DoF) in photography is the range of distance in a scene that appears acceptably sharp and in focus, from the nearest to the farthest point, with everything outside this zone becoming progressively blurred. It's a crucial creative tool, controlled mainly by aperture (small f-number = shallow DoF, large f-number = deep DoF), focal length, and distance to subject, allowing photographers to isolate subjects (shallow DoF for portraits) or keep everything sharp (deep DoF for landscapes).
