  • West Country Herf - Sunday April 22nd

So then, finally finding out that Dan had joined up on this here fine site, I thought I'd best show my face again (have been hitting the ski slopes recently, and sadly not taking advantage of Austria's smoking indoors policy).

Anyhow, onto the point of this thread. Dan may well be heading down at the end of April for a beer festival and St George's Day party. As we usually spend some time in the company of fine hand-rolled cigars, we thought that we might try and turn the 'day off' into a proper herf. That day is Sunday 22nd April. So, we wondered if anyone else who lives in or around Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall etc fancied meeting up for a UKCF West Country Herf? (Probable KO around 1300).

I'm going to spend some time trying to find the best venue - we usually smoke down at the Barbican outside the Watering Hole, but I'm going to try and find somewhere a little nicer if I can.

So then, do we have anyone that's interested in joining us - plenty of notice...

Way back in April 2009, I believe Dan found this establishment acceptable SimonDippy.No1.2009.04.11_0775.jpgCH.Herf.2009.04.11_0774.jpg Dippy.No1.2009.04.11_0776.jpgI started on a Dippy No1 whislt waiting for the others to turn up. Then passed around ERDM Grandes de Espana. CH.Herf.2009.04.11_0778.jpgThese went down very well in the afto sunshine. CH.Herf.2009.04.11_0779.jpgThen usually I followed up with another ERDM, a Choix Supreme.ERDM.CS.2009.04.11_0783.jpg It was very interesting to compare the two so close together. Later in the evening I had a Cohiba Especiales, which was a fitting end to a perfect day. Wish I could join you both but I'll sure be thinking of you. Would heartily recommend any members who can attend should make the effort, sure to have a great time, especially if you can book similar weather.

I've never seen those pictures from that herf before.... Brings back the good memories (and that the weather was wonderful that day, despite being a little chilly).

My cigars have arrived, and it's a good thing the weather is rather rotten round these parts, or I would be smoking them already.

Thanks for the photos from your West Country Herf '09, Simon. Unfortunately View 2 is not what it once was. That said, it changed hands again just before Christmas (now in the ownership of Annabel's Cabaret). Think it's slowly on the up again, but it does seem to have positioned itself more as an evening venue recently (not being open on weekday days). Hope there are as many fine cigars and smiles, and just as much sunshine this time round. I'm sure the quality cigars will be there, having already been privy to Dan's fine haul.

Just a quick reminder for anyone who's still interested. Dan is now en-route to the West Country, so I'm now very much looking forward to this herf.

I'm thinking we'd be best off sticking to our usual haunt, the now re-re-named Ship Inn (previously the Watering Hole) as there is protection from the elements and heaters in-case it's not the greatest weather. They also do decent food and nibbles if anyone wanted a bite to eat, and it's just a minute away from the gin distillery if anyone fancied a good cocktail after the herf. 1400 kick-off? (Just thinking we'll be at a beer festival the day before, so an overly early start might be a tad optimistic...)
