Gutted, I used to live about 10 minutes away from Bisley before I moved back up to Scotland.

I would of been so up for this as I used to be a member of a shooting club at Bisley and know it very well.

Excellent response so far guys! I hope it remains as good once the details are in place.

Rhiannon - no problems with having a non-shooter join us, the more the merrier (whether shooting or not). Depending upon the final location it would just be a case of finalising numbers for catering.

I've had responses from two of the grounds, with a surprising similarity in offers. Just waiting on Bisley now.

I briefly discussed the idea with Jimmeh at Manchester St after the Cain launch (if I recall correctly, by that stage it was rather 'merry').

snooky - Broomhills? As for the golf herf - who was organizing that? I put a couple of feelers out myself, but the thread seemed to die a death (twice).

Sounds like a really good HERF to me....

Both dates seem fine to me, BUT! I really do need to know what we are looking at cost wise...

          It will definitely be two-figures.

West London are now out of the running, they were asking for ?100+ per person - why pay that when H&H are cheaper (and a mecca). Hopefully I'll be able to say what we're looking at price wise tomorrow (once Bisley have got back to me and I've tried to work them and H&H down a little ).

Okay then guys. Here are the options. (As I say, I've given West London Shooting School the chop - ridiculously priced compared to the others).

              Holland & Holland

A shooting mecca. These are the grounds which were developed by the famous gunmakers of the same name. Here's their website for a little more information.

              Cost: ?88 (currently )
Included: All shooting equipment (gun hire, protective equipment, clays, cartridges etc...), instructors, opportunity to shoot a ridiculously expensive and gorgeous shotgun, plus as much tea and coffee as we can drink.
              ---

              Bisley

Another excellent shooting ground, well known to anyone in the UK who shoots anything with a trigger. Regularly used for championships and military competitions. Here's their website.

              Cost:
              ?88 (odd that...)
Included: All shooting equipment (gun hire, protective equipment, clays, cartridges etc...), instructors. Unfortunately, not tea and coffee .
              ---

Transport: H&H is arguably a little easier to get to, and is near Northwood and Ruislip for access by public transport (if you want a few drinkies). Bisley is 3 miles from the nearest station (Brookwood). Neither is a million miles away from a motorway (H&H the M25 and M40; Bisley the M3).

My thoughts: My preference is for Holland & Holland. There's the opportunity to shoot a H&H gun. The guy from H&H was also very helpful - the first to get back to me, he also phoned to discuss the options (and has pencilled us in so that we don't lose the day). I think it would be quite nice to have access to as much coffee as possible to go with a pre-shoot cigar. They do both have patios and/or veranda for us to smoke on.

So then guys, the floor is open. Please let me know what you think and I'll get onto it. If you've got any questions, ask away.

one point Si, is there a dress code for this sort of thing?

No dress code at either ground, per se. Probably advisable not to rock up at H&H in a Diadora tracksuit though... Neither, I hope, will it be necessary to arrive in plus-twos, matching jacket, shooting socks and garters.

I'll probably be in chinos, shirt and a coat (of some description, dependent upon weather).

Many years ago went to Bisley to practice with a short-stock pump, was frowned on a little

Can't help but think of this :

A clip from a great episode which is possibly the funniest part in the episode.

                              A pump! What are you, a red-neck?

                              Could have been worse mind:

Definitely don't turn up with anything like the above. I'll pretent not to know you and tell the ground that you're not with our group...

My preference is for H&H. I promise not to turn up with this (yes it is pink):

Are we okay to bring our own gun or are we going to level the playing field a bit?
