This looks to be shaping up good!... be interested if it lines up with my travel plans, why don't you combine this with the shooting herf? could make a weekend of it, maybe somewhere like Stapleford park, I've been quite a few times, not a bad venue, had a good smoking lounge... or a similar venue, they would put you up a small markey in the grounds, you could pair your smokes to the shoot...LOL (only joking, clays only off course )

I've a few bottles of DP 87/88 somewhere, might be a idea to pair the drinks with the cigars! this would enhance the experience.

Although a Billecart Salmon Vintage with a ERDM Especiales Italian RE may pair well as an aperitif, it may lose a little of it's elegance in a tent in a farmers field (with a whiff of cow pats!)

Best thing is to decide what the structure of the event will be, then the location, then the food/drink/cigar pairings, with an evolution of tastings through the day/evening, just a thought...

This may work out too pricey for some... better to have maybe a luxury buffet at a more modest venue, sorry I was not thinking.

so a balanced selection of drinks and smokes....

Yea, because im an uncivilised caveman, I'd probably just have a word with mitch to convert my ?150 into his recommendation of fine smokes or libation. As I said before I'd like the sound of this herf to be exposed to new and finer things!

Huge fan of vintage Billecart. Good call!
P.S. What's wrong with the whiff of a cow pat? - I dunno, you 'Townies' are just too delicate.

It's a good point, regarding giving some thought to the 'structure' and 'pairings' of the food, drink and cigars.
When 'T' mentioned his aged Hoyo's I thought "I know just what would work with those" - A good vintage Bollinger Grande Annee (due to the saline quality of the blend - think typical Bolly flavour but with a hint of Brazil nuts and salted caramel).
Probably one to consider earlier in the evening, before hitting the 'power-house' flavours and switching to spirits.

Regarding the Dom, the events I've attended in the past have tended to favour pairing it with cigars like the Trinidad Fundadore or (unsurprisingly) Davidoffs, but I'll do a bit more research into alternatives.
Again, one for earlier rather than later.

It looks like there's more than one person who might opt for a 'cash' donation, which makes me think it might be better if we 'pooled it' and made enquiries as to what the total might buy.

I.E. Could Mitch or Ajay steer us toward something a little 'sexier' than normal if it was ?300 instead of ?150 we had to spend? (I'm looking at you 'T'). I don't suppose it matters if it's not even a full box - depends on the numbers attending I guess.

P.S. Anyone know when the shooting herf is likely to take place, and is most people's preference for a weekend date?

Not yet. Still trying to clear up the mess. Likely to be an early November Saturday though.

Get an idea of funds and numbers and I will approach him with a smile and see what is on offer, I will put some feelers out this week also.

In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

I would be one of those preferring to put cash in.

I'm working with H&H to find a new date (after the previous one was pinched ) that doesn't clash with anything else on here, isn't too far into the winter and that they have space for us.

Any ideas about figures yet, I am looking forward to seeing what I can maybe organise cigar wise.

I'll need a firm date before I can commit I'm afraid. Have I missed one being mentioned?

Just had a rummage through my cellar and I have four bottles of 1973 Entre Deux Jambes which I would be happy to pitch into the picnic. Great with cheese.

I'm bumping this to enquire if any of our London based BOTL have any ideas or contacts for a possible venue.
I'm looking to you guys for some 'on-the-spot' guidance if possible.

Either somewhere we can hire for the evening (at a realistic cost), or a venue that would allow us to use their smoking facilities (outdoor beer garden, bothy, terrace, etc) for a nominal fee, or charge for food etc.
Gotta be somebody with a contact or two?

(This is assuming of course, that the majority of people who expressed an interest would prefer a London based herf?
If not, or you have a possible alternative suggestion, speak now.. etc, etc).

Also, regarding a date, a quick show of (figurative) hands please, before or after Christmas? Mid-week or weekend?

Seeing as I asked the question, I'll say:
The first weekend in December would suit me (Friday the 3rd Dec), but only because I'll be in London that weekend anyway.
I'm flexible, so it makes no difference to me (majority rule and all that).
