Just thought I'd introduce myself as I have been reading the forums for a few weeks

I'm Spoony,

I am just starting on the journey that is cigar appreciation but I have been smoking a pipe for a little while now. I have very little experience of cigars at present, just the usual crap that most people experiment with in their youth (Hamlets, Wintermans etc). I recently had my first Cuban (H Upman Corona Junior) and enjoyed it greatly and so I am keen to try more and learn a bit about them so I guess this is the right place.

Welcome DJSpoony, as said before, good to start with a lighter cigar (Upmann/ Hoyo) rather than all this macho sh!te of bowling straight into a head spinner of a Bolivar. You have plenty of time to test out all the different cigars so why rush at the 'high fences'

To be honest I found this place as I was looking for a pipe smoking forum that was UK based. I was going to register and post straight away in there but started reading the cigar threads out of curiosity which inspired me to take the plunge into the world of cigars.

I still love my pipe and will continue to smoke it and get stuck in on the pipe forum but as Bigboned suggested I will be "playing cigars" as well. I probably won't be amassing a collection of cigars (no humi to keep them in...yet) but will keep picking up the odd single to see what I like.

Any suggestions regarding what stick people think I should pick up next would be most welcome.

Try a Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto or Epicure No 1 or a Trinidad Reyes (small but perfectly formed with a little peppery spice)
Then start looking for an aged cigar (something about 4-5 years old) try a small aged Romeo Y Julietta.

That should get you cooking.

Nic thanks for the suggestions. I think as a total novice to this game I should be trying the smaller ones first and from reading previous threads the Trinidad Reyes seems very popular. I know they are in stock at my local shop so I'll pick one up next time I'm in and let you know how I get on. I'll also get round to trying the others but I'll pick up the Reyes first

Hello chico spoony and welcome to the table...errr, show!

Most probably don't know this, but ol' don TJ started out with a pipe many, many years ago, but now almost exclusively enjoys fine puros due to the ease and convenience over the assortment of hassles that comes with pipe smoking, e.g., loading, packing, keeping it lit, cleaning and so on.
But what the hell does he know!
