Great introduction. It's good to get a bit of variety with your smokes. All the best pal.

Just an introduction and to say hello. I have been enjoying cigars for a few years on and off but have only this year begun to enjoy them with greater frequency. I am enjoying trying as many different brands as possible. My earliest memories of cigars are walking with my father on holiday as a small boy catching the wisps of lovely tobacco smoke in the summer evenings and any light cigar can easily take me back there in an instant. I’m 48 now and enjoying my new past time. My only challenge is that I can’t smoke at home so I have to find somewhere, usually out of the wind (sunny Glasgow) with a heater to enjoy my hour. I have become a bit of a convert for the heavier gauge and box pressed Rocky Patels. No elaborate reviews I am afraid but I like what I like. I normally buy from Robert Graham in Glasgow. Excellent, friendly staff and I would recommend them. My other favourite place to shop at is the Cegar and snuff shop in Covent Garden London. I have taken the chance of ordering online this weekend past. Notontheforum.com so we will see how that works out. The main reason is cost and lesser so - some of their range. Grahams have a phenomenal range – that is true; but each week can easily see between ?45 - ?70 spent . I usually pick up 3 – 4 different cigars but I can buy 10 for the price of 4 including packaging and International shipping. Admittedly I have ordered 'five of' so I am not getting the variation that I normally enjoy but I am gathering a little stock of different tobacco houses so I can swap when I feel like it. I can also always order a mixed bundle or sampler pack. The reviews that are available of 'Notontheforum' seem good but we will wait and see. I hope no one comes on to flame them whatever happens I will post review of package and contents when I get it.

        Cheers

        Steven

Aging room Boutique Blends M356 Major – really enjoyed this, big smoke, great taste, lasted forever.
Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial – big powerful smoke, lots of aroma but v. strong.
Partagas Serie D No 5 – was looking for a quicker smoke under an hour (!) and was recommended this. I am sure that it’s a great cigar but it wasn’t for me. Perhaps I am used to a bigger smoke (not literally) but it felt warm and bitter (?) perhaps it was my light up but it wasn’t for me and it was a disappointment.
Bolivar Belicosos Finos Cabinet – one of the best that I have tried so far. Lots of very aromatic smoke, very smooth, effortless.
Alex Bradley Black Market – a war of wills, perhaps a bad one but it was truly dreadful. Overly tight draw, could barely taste anything. Not again and it put me off the brand.
Montecristo 4 – smoked these for years abroad. Like them.
Montecristo 2 – this one had dried out a little and it wasn’t what it should have been. It was a gift so just one of those things but I know that I should have been patient and let it sit in the humidor and get some moisture.
Montecristo open regatta – oh dear, first one that I picked up had begun to unravel. Should have thought about that. This one was poor. Very. Half way through I saw a green marking on the wrapper under the band. It tasted almost floral but not in a good way – more like a toilet cleaner way. I’m going back to talk about this to the supplier.
Rocky Patel box press Royale – fantastic. Really enjoyed this. Big smoke, easy draw and great taste.
Rocky Patel box press Platinum Toro – see all of above for Royale.
Dunhill Aged Reserva Especial Robusto Grande – excellent, smooth and held its ash to almost ? way. Enjoyed it.
Ashton VSG Pegasus – This was a good smoke, good taste and an easy draw.
La Flor Dominicana double ligera – great cigar, really enjoyed it and well worth the money. At about ?13 it rivalled more expensive sticks easily.
Various La Invicta Hondurans – ok – ish, bit harsh, aroma ok I suppose but really nothing much else to say. To think that it was about ?3-?4 less than the La Flor above – absolutely no contest - always spend upwards and enjoy a better smoke.

        Coming soon in mail order–

? Rocky Pate; The Edge Toro Maduro
        ? Camacho Corojo Gigante

        Trying next –
? Arturo Fuente Magnum Rosado No 58
        ? Macanudo 1968 Rothschild
? My Father Le Bijou 1922 Torpedo
? My Father 1922 Churchill - order waiting
? Perdomo Reserve Champagne - order waiting
? CAO Flathead V554, Camshaft - order waiting
        ? Camacho Corojo Figurado
        ? Cain F Habano 660 - ordered
? Flor de Las Antillas Toro
        ? Macanudo Cru Royale Robustos
Have you tried the Rocky Patel Decade Torpedo Steven? One of the best smokes I've tried IMO. Definitely worth sampling.

From Left - The Royale was the first RP that I tried and enjoyed immensely
The RP Platinum which was just a good and I believe a little cheaper (?)
The Ageing room which was again really good
The Dunhill which was slow and the mildest of the line up so far, surprising tightish draw but ver good
The Double Ligera which was truly a great smoke, really did enjoy this, Long lasting and flavoursome. nice 'original' tobacco aromas
...They're probably drinking whiskey and smoking big cigars...

                  Thanks again for the welcome

Question - how do I get permissions for PMs? I see offers for cigar purchases that I am locked out of - anyway that this can be rectified or is it a 'time spent' thing?

I#ll even send the money upfront

Have you tried any other shops in London? I find the one in Covent Gardens to be one of the worst one, and you also can't sample in there JJ Fox and 1a on St James's Street are both great shops

                            Great introduction.

Might I suggest the addition of one or two more Cubans to your 'try' list..? A Partagas or two may well pay dividends.
                            Cheers and enjoy.
