newbie question ?????

Hi all,

Just a quick question from a newbie.

How long on average does a tubos cigar stay good for ? Not ready to invest in a humidor just yet.
I was considering using a tupperware box with one of the 2 way humidification sachets for now or even an old cigar box !!!
Would this be ok ???

Hi Paulmac,

A tupperdor will be fine. Locknlock make very good boxes - I use a large one with a few boveda packs for boxes and have a small humidor for single sticks.

If the tubo is stored in the Tupperware box and humidity is right it will be good until it goes up in smoke!

The cigar box on the other hand won't be suitable for storage s it won't have a tight enough seal.

Just to note, is the tubed cigar coming from a humidity controlled environment (ie, cigar shop)?

Now, I don't profess to be an expert when it comes to cigars and the proper care of same, like others around these parts, but I'm not sure I'd trust a tubo for permanent storage of a cigar. Sure, it might stay fresher for a longer period stuck inside a tubo than a bare naked cigar, but I'd play it safe and keep a tubo cigar in a humidor of your choice.

That's what I'd do, anyway.

I've been advised by the proprietor of our sponsor, a man I reckon knows his onions, to unseal tubos when putting them in the humidor. I infer from this that the tubos themselves need to be kept at humidor conditions, and thus, they may not be very "sealed" in some cases.
