Well sir, I've had the occasion to season a few humidors in my time and never had a problem wiping down the sides of the box with distilled water. The trick is to lightly dampen/moisten the wood; not to saturate it. A slight darkening of the wood is sufficient. Using this method gives the process a "jump start," if your will, and cuts down the time needed to get your box up and running.

Now, no dobut a few purists out there and the so-called "aficionados" will have something to say about this and probably poo-poo the process. And that's fine, but I just don't have the patience to wait weeks watching the paint dry.

My boveda didnt make it and I couldn't wait so went ahead with the distilled water / humidor solution method.
Couldn't decide between wiping it down or not, I went with a blend in the end i.e very lightly wiped it down with distilled water. Then left the sponge in there, basically this method described here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6W5Q9FxbOY

It's been 3 days and currently the analogue hygrometer reads just under 80%. It was calibrated with the salt sludge method. I've removed the sponge now and will give it another couple of days or so to see if it settles lower. excited

Sounds like you're on the right track, chico!

The lad in the video reminded me of something I forgot to mention. If you choose to lightly wipe/dampen the sides, which I do, keep a paper towel handy to wipe up any spills/excess or to lightly pat down the walls if you think they are over wet. Also, I suggest you place all items in the box - tray and dividers - so they can season; otherwise, they may pull a wee bit on the humidty if when added to the final set up.
