  • Greetings from Poole, Dorset

    Hello everyone,

I have to say at the outset, that owing to forum gremlins I have found posting on here more difficult that joining the ‘masons!

Putting that aside, I live in Poole, Dorset and I joined this forum from rather a strange perspective and no doubt some of you may question my sanity for doing so - but please let me briefly explain:

Over 60 years ago, a regular visitor to my home was a favourite Uncle and was always someone who I looked forward to meeting. Uncle Harry was both a pipe and cigar aficionado and whilst he regaled me with his wartime stories he smoked and to this very day the aroma of cigars immediately transports me back to those happy times.

I have never ever smoked smoked anything, legal or otherwise, but I have always been conscious of that cigar ‘itch’, something that I intended to scratch and that is why I am here.

The Trout season is about to commence and I fully intend to break my duck in the next few weeks by sitting at the side of the river and (hopefully)enjoying a cigar and seeing where the experience transports me.

I’ve been researching the many posts on here and I would certainly like to thank Max A for the thread he commenced and I have been busy plagiarising his information and also Pandyboy for his Youtube reviews.

Being somewhat presumptuous I have already made an initial purchase (through the forum sponsor) and they will be subject of a separate thread, where I will be seeking your advice.

Welcome along to the forum and very happy my thread has been of some use to you

I've posted some thoughts on your other thread, hopefully it's helpful.

Wishing you success with the cigars and the upcoming trout fishing. We have a number of other fishermen on here too!

Welcome. I don't think that's a strange perspective at all! I've been a non smoker before starting on cigars - other than the very occasional smoke of something during my formative student years at uni. Moving on...

I was walking round the local park late last year taking my dose of 'daily exercise'. The weather was good enough so I took a cigar with me - i think i recall it was a Montecristo Petite No. 2 - I was enjoying the cigar (a bit under-filled IIRC so burnt a bit hot and bitter sometimes to be honest but smoking a cigar at lunchtime in November, can't complain) I walked passed an elderly lady making her way along the path slowly. I can only guess she was in her 80's. When I got in front of her she called out to say the smell of the cigar was lovely and it reminded her of her grandfather as he was the only other person she knew who smoked a cigar. Love how the aroma can instantly take someone back. It's the aroma that drew me to cigars too.

                .--
I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

                    Thanks Dean,

I hope without sound patronising, there's an obvious good natured genuineness running through the participants on this forum

There totally is! A fine bunch of gentleman (and the odd lady) who really are willing to help and chat all things cigars.

Just don't get them started on politics

Welcome aboard! Great bunch of guys on here, only downside is going to be your bank balance rapidly declining but that’s expected, it’s when you start planning the walk in humidor you have to start worrying.
