  • Hello from the North East

I've been smoking cigars on and off for years, but never really tried anything significantly more adventurous than a Monte Cristo 4 or a RYJ2 - both of which I love by the way. I haven't really smoked anything in a while and then a few weeks ago I was staying on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh and seemed to be surrounded by cigar shops - albeit over priced. Long story short I bought a few and really enjoyed them so this week I took the plunge and bought my own humidor, in fact it was delivered about 2 hours ago. Nothing fancy just the Xikar travel humidor which fits around 60 sticks in. Bought a couple of singles to start me off:

Oliva Serie G Maduro Selection Robusto Cigar
Oliva Serie G Maduro Selection Belicoso Cigar
    Cohiba Exquisitos Cigar
    Montecristo No.4 Cigar
    Romeo y Julieta No.2
    Vegueros Mananitas Cigar
    H. Upmann Half Corona

Looking forward to reading about what's good and what's not as I say I have never been particularly adventurous but would like to expand my horizons. I have my mother out in Tenerife at the moment so hoping that she can get her hands on some bargains for me this week - does anyone know if prices in Tenerife are much better than the UK?

    Cheers

Hi Ditch, welcome to the forum - in relation to your Tenerife enquiry, Haaltert produced a comprehensive thread in 'Cigar travel', only a few days ago, detailing all the shops in Tenerife

Where are you Puro? I used to get mine from the indoor market in Durham but last time I was in they'd moved and were closed, they used to have a reasonable selection a few years ago. I sometimes get to the Cuban Cigar Club in Newcastle but trips to Newcastle are less convenient.

I think so far RYJ no 2 is about the nicest I've tried.

Any recommendations for a good cutter? I have had the same one years and it could use an upgrade.

                Im in middlesbrough.

If you like ryj i recommend exploring the range.

cutters to be honest i do favor a punch depending on the rg, if its smaller i still use a plastic firebird that i bought when i started smoking. Its still sharp, gives a nice clean cut and it's better than the xikar i got about a year ago.

email the shop, place an order for her to collect, pay for and bring home. i once had a 'surprise' when i asked a family member to grab me a box from duty free.

Thanks everyone. I’m looking forward to being given the permissions to buy a few sticks I must admit.

In the meantime has anyone tried the cheap tab shop in Newcastle? Feel free to laugh but their selection online looks good. I thought it was only Cuban cigar club that sold them in town?

                              Welcome to the forum.

Should you have questions on the Tenerife part, don’t hesitate to ask.

Unfortunately the stores are very empty at the moment but you’re still able to find stuff way cheaper than UK
